The Payroll Processing Lead manages the complete payroll processing cycle for Old Dominion University, ensuring accurate and timely semi-monthly and special payroll distributions across multiple employee categories while maintaining compliance with university, state, and federal regulations.
Key Responsibilities: Execute full-range payroll processing activities including calculation, preparation, processing, and reconciliation of payroll for faculty, administrators, graduate assistants, classified, student, and wage employees. Ensure compliance with Commonwealth of Virginia policies, Federal and State tax laws, garnishment laws, and other regulatory requirements.
Skills & Tools: Strong proficiency in payroll processing systems, tax regulations, and reconciliation procedures. Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple payroll cycles while maintaining accuracy and meeting strict deadlines.
Qualifications: Typically requires 3-5 years of payroll processing experience with demonstrated expertise in multi-category employee payroll management. Knowledge of Virginia state tax laws, federal tax compliance, and payroll accounting systems preferred.

The primary objective of this position is to perform the full range of payroll processing activities to include calculation, preparation, processing and reconciliation in an accurate and timely manner of the semi-monthly payroll and other special payrolls as needed for Old Dominion University employees to include faculty, faculty administrators, graduate assistants, classified, student and wage employees following University policy and procedures, Commonwealth of Virginia policies, Federal and State tax laws, garnishment laws and other governing bodies as required.
