The Office of Information Technology at the University of Colorado Boulder encourages applications for a Director of Analytics and Institutional Reporting! This role plays a critical role in leading the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of analytics and institutional reporting programs within the Data & Analytics division of OIT.

This position operates at the intersection of analytics, institutional research, and information technology, and will be responsible for developing and managing a program to ensure that all data products, analytic services, and reporting solutions are ultimately delivered through modern IT infrastructure, robust data management and service management practices, and enterprise-grade tools that support high-quality service delivery. Serving as a deputy to the AVCD&A for matters related to analysis, analytics programs, and institutional reporting, this position works closely with the AVCD&A, the Director of Data Engineering, the Senior Advisor to the AVCD&A, and the rest of the D&A leadership team to deliver accurate, timely, accessible, and reproducible data products; modernize analytics services through improved data infrastructure and service management; and cultivate a culture of innovation, accountability, and excellence in analytics and reporting.

The Director provides leadership–including mentorship, operational and strategic oversight, and service improvement–in three key areas: (1) Analytics Programs, including surveys, data visualization, and the Faculty Course Questionnaire (FCQs; i.e. CU’s student evaluations of instruction, SETs), (2) Analysis, a team of data science and analytics professionals who deliver complex analysis projects, dashboards, and reports to support campus-wide data-informed decision-making, and (3) Institutional Reporting, including compliance reporting to federal, state, and CU System entities. The Director is also responsible for supervising the shared responsibilities of all three groups as they fulfill data and analytic requests from campus partners and disseminate data and reports through the website and other means.

This position directly supervises three assistant/associate directors–the Assistant Director of Analytics Programs, the Associate Director of Analysis, and the Assistant Director of Institutional Reporting–each of whom supervises teams of professional analysts and service managers, with a total of approximately 15 full-time staff across the three groups. The Director is responsible for the selection, training, and empowerment of those team leads, and for providing guidance and support for their supervision and leadership of their respective groups. This includes working with the Assistant and Associate Directors to set performance objectives and key results, evaluate team performance against established metrics, and develop and implement strategies for improvement. For direct reports, the Director also performs day-to-day supervisory responsibilities such as leave approvals, workload prioritization, and service management.

  • Lead efforts to assess, improve, and mature institutional data products and services—including analytics, reporting, dashboards, surveys, and student evaluations of teaching—by employing modern IT tools and implementing standard methodologies, quality assurance, and continuous service improvement initiatives.
  • Partner with the AVCD&A and D&A leadership team to establish and implement standards for service and program management, project approval and prioritization, and lead service improvement initiatives such as robust QA programs, badging/certification for validated reports, enhanced customer service for campus leadership, and effective portfolio management.
  • Support initiatives related to data literacy, data security and governance, data accessibility, and effective data use across the university.

Operational Oversight and Leadership for Analysis and Institutional Reporting

  • Establish and manage product delivery roadmaps with clear landmarks to support campus-wide decision-making and assessment.
  • Ensure timely and accurate institutional reporting in compliance with federal, state, and system-level mandates (e.g., IPEDS, SURDS, accreditation reporting).
  • Collaborate with university partners to assess analytic and reporting needs, prioritize projects, and align work with key initiatives and regulatory requirements.

Team Leadership and Development

  • Directly supervising, mentoring, and developing three assistant/associate directors, and empowering all team members to excel in their roles with a focus on continuous improvement, technical skill development, IT standard processes, and professional growth.
  • Setting and holding staff accountable to objectives and key results; evaluating team performance against these metrics; developing and implementing strategies for improvement.
  • Cultivating an inclusive and accountable team culture that actively encourages varied perspectives, continuous learning, and open collaboration, while embedding practices of ongoing feedback, recognition, and improvement across all analytics and reporting functions.
  • Collaborating with the AVCD&A and D&A leadership team to ensure aligned resource management and effective multi-functional support.

Participation and Representation in Campus-wide Structures, Governance, and Committees

  • Leading or working on multi-functional projects that require subject-matter expertise in institutional data, surveys, analysis, and reporting.
  • Representing D&A by serving on committees, working groups, and decision-making bodies in coordination with the AVCD&A.
  • In coordination with the AVCD&A, acting as a liaison for high-visibility or sensitive data requests from senior leadership and external entities, ensuring visibility, accountability, and responsiveness.

Fiscal, Procurement, and Vendor Management

  • Supporting the evaluation and procurement of software tools, platforms, and external service providers based on cost-effectiveness, performance, and alignment with university needs, and supporting budgeting for analytics and institutional reporting programs.
