Role Snapshot

The Capital Project Manager oversees the complete lifecycle of Old Dominion University's capital construction projects, from design procurement through construction management and warranty monitoring. This role ensures projects meet the University's needs, comply with regulations, and protect institutional interests.

Key Responsibilities: Develop scopes for architect/engineer services, manage project budgets and schedules, oversee design compliance with University requirements and codes, direct construction activities and state inspectors, and monitor facility performance during warranty periods to identify defects.
Skills & Tools: Strong project management, budget and schedule control, knowledge of construction practices and building codes, vendor and contractor management, design review expertise, and stakeholder communication abilities.
Qualifications: Typically requires a bachelor's degree in engineering, architecture, construction management, or related field, with 5-10 years of capital project management experience in higher education or institutional settings.
Location: In-Person
Compensation: $85K–$130K/yr (estimated)

Job Description

The position serves as the manager for both design and construction of ODU’s Capital construction projects. This includes developing the scope for A/E services for award through procurement, ensuring the final design reflects the University’s needs and priorities and complies with relevant code and regulatory requirements, establishing and maintaining the projects schedule and budget, managing the project construction stage, directing the state’s project inspector, ensuring the final product conforms with design documents, and monitoring facility performance throughout the warranty period to protect the University’s interests against concealed defects.
