Summary

As Senior Specialist, Publications Marketing at ATD Press, you'll drive marketing initiatives and business growth for a leading publisher in the Talent Development industry. This pivotal role supports the expansion of ATD's growing book and publications portfolio through strategic campaign development and execution.

Key Responsibilities: Key responsibilities include copywriting marketing collateral (email, print, digital, social media), managing email campaign deployment and performance tracking, updating website content, and facilitating targeted marketing campaigns to drive business and audience acquisition. You'll collaborate with marketing, publishing, and training teams to support publications promotion and community engagement programs.
Skills & Tools: Strong copywriting and interpersonal communication abilities, project management skills, and proficiency with marketing systems and HTML are essential. You must demonstrate detail-oriented analytical thinking, problem-solving capabilities, resourcefulness, and a customer-first collaborative mindset with the ability to juggle multiple projects simultaneously.
Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, marketing, or equivalent relevant experience required, with minimum 2 years in publishing and 3-5 years in marketing. Knowledge of Chicago Manual of Style and AP style preferred, with ability to understand talent development content nuances.
Location: Hybrid in Alexandria, Virginia, United States (4 days/week office initially, transitioning to more flexible hybrid arrangement)
Compensation: $65,000 – $85,000/year

Job Description:

This Role…

ATD Press has hundreds of books that are considered the most respected in the Talent Development industry. Publications are written by industry thought leaders. This is a pivotal time for ATD publishing, as ATD broadens its sales and marketing efforts for its growing list of books and publications.

As a Senior Specialist, Publications Marketing, you will report to our Marketing Manager - Membership & Flagship Products, supporting the broader Marketing department. The Senior Specialist will assist with email and marketing campaign development by organizing, tracking, and facilitating marketing initiatives, management, and execution to drive business primarily for our publications program. Additional activities and campaigns include support of community engagement.

Specifically, the key activities you will support in this role include:

  • Copywriting and supporting the development of marketing collateral, including email, direct mail, print/digital advertising, content, and social media graphics
  • Setting up and deploying emails through ATD marketing systems
  • Monitoring performance metrics and providing weekly tracking analysis on marketing campaigns
  • Effectively and collaboratively working in partnership with a growing and changing team of marketing, publishing, and training professionals who are results-driven and passionate about their work
  • Demonstrating an exceptional customer-first approach and an ability to interface with authors about their books and marketing best practices
  • Updating website content with a focus on user experience and optimization
  • Facilitating special tactics campaigns for publications and community engagement programs
  • Helping to support campaigns to increase market exposure and generate new business and audience acquisition
  • Processing data to curate targeted audience marketing lists
  • Other duties as assigned

About You:

  • You are a self-starter, comfortable taking initiative, able to quickly learn systems and technology, and eager to improve results.
  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, marketing, or equivalent relevant experience is required
  • Minimum of 2 years in a publishing environment with 3 - 5 years of experience in marketing
  • Ability to learn and understand nuances of talent development content and audiences for copywriting and marketing purposes
  • Applied knowledge of the Chicago Manual of Style and AP preferred
  • Collaborative, client-focused mindset
  • Strong project management skills; must be able to juggle multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously
  • Strong problem-solving skills with an ability to research issues and provide actionable recommendations
  • Resourceful, extremely detail-oriented, and analytical
  • Excellent copywriting and interpersonal communication skills are a must
  • Experience with HTML and email marketing programs and systems

  • The Association for Talent Development is a hybrid organization headquartered in Alexandria, VA.
