Who you are 

To advance Understood’s mission and to further our impact, we’re hiring an Associate Director of Analytics, reporting to our Head of Data, Analytics, and Insights. This is a key position where you will drive actionable insights across marketing, product, and advancement. The ideal candidate will be highly skilled in setting organizational and team wide goals, leveraging data to inform strategic decisions, and being an excellent data storyteller. In this role, you will both manage and mentor a team of analysts while still contributing directly to the important work of the team.

What you’ll do

  • Own the communication and socialization of actionable insights and findings throughout the organization in a simple and intuitive narrative format. 
  • Lead, mentor, and inspire a high-performing team of analysts.
  • Partner with product, marketing, and advancement teams to define success metrics, establish reporting frameworks, and deliver actionable insights.
  • Lead the design and implementation of advanced analytics models to understand user behaviors, understand marketing attribution, and optimize user pathways.
  • Support experimentation (A/B testing) and personalization efforts, including test design, analysis, and insights to inform product and marketing strategies.
  • Use statistical techniques and data modeling to forecast outcomes, set organization and team wide goals, and evaluate the performance of initiatives.
  • Identify net new opportunities to improve the user experience and drive business outcomes through analytics and data storytelling.
  • Advocate for a data-driven culture, fostering cross-functional collaboration and ensuring data accuracy, accessibility, and usability across teams.

Must-haves 

  • 6-8 years of experience in analytics, with a proven ability to partner with senior executives and translate business questions into actionable insights. 
  • 2+ years of demonstrated success in managing analytics teams, including experience leading teams of analysts across multiple functions. 
  • Expertise in managing analytics projects end-to-end, delivering clear, actionable recommendations with measurable business outcomes. 
  • Strong data storytelling skills, with the ability to distill complex data into compelling narratives for stakeholders at all levels. 
  • Experience in setting organizational, team, and project level success metrics
  • Deep knowledge of SQL and proficiency in analytics tools like Python, R, or similar platforms; experience with Looker is a plus. 
  • A passion for diving deep into data, collaborating across teams, and taking action to solve tough challenges.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with marketing analytics and marketing models such as MTA 
  • Experience with implementing enterprise BI tooling (Looker preferred)
  • Experience with chatbot technologies and frameworks, such as OpenAI, LangChain, and LangSmith
