Under the direction of the Senior Director of Cyber and Information Security, the Director of Data and Identity Governance will establish and maintain a comprehensive framework for data governance and identity management within the organization. This role ensures that the organization's data assets are managed effectively and securely, and that they comply with relevant regulations and policies. It requires a deep understanding of data governance principles, IAM best practices, and a strong ability to collaborate.
The Director will develop and implement policies, procedures, and technologies to ensure data quality, integrity, security, and compliance, managing user access and privileges across various systems and applications.
The Director will oversee the day-to-day operations of the Identity and Access Management team and collaborate closely with the Data Governance Committee, including legal, compliance, and business units, to ensure the success of our institution's data governance program.
In conjunction with the UDit leadership team, the Director will participate in developing the University's information technology strategic vision and roadmap. By collaborating with University leaders and business partners, they will create a strategy to recommend, design, and implement cost-effective, innovative data governance and identity management solutions.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Management, or a related field.
- 7+ years of experience in IT leadership roles with a combination of data and identity governance, business analysis, and managing projects with an increasing level of responsibilities.
- Extensive experience in data governance and identity management, including policy development, implementation, and enforcement.
- Strong understanding of data governance and identity management principles, best practices, and regulatory requirements.
- Deep understanding of data governance principles, frameworks, and best practices (e.g., DAMA-DMBOK).
- Experience with data governance, identity management tools, and technologies.
- Effective written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
- Strong leadership skills.
- Relationship building and collaboration skills.
- Knowledge of relevant security and privacy regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA, HIPAA).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a matrixed organization.
While not everyone may possess all of the preferred qualifications, the ideal candidate will bring many of the following:
- Master’s Degree in Computer Science or related field.
- 10+ years of management experience.
- 5+ years leading across organizations or job families.
- Project Management Certification (PMP) from an accredited institution.
- ITIL 4 Foundations certification and demonstrated practical application.
- Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification.
- Enterprise Architecture experience (certified Enterprise Architect preferred).
- Demonstrated success in implementing and supporting governance and security systems.
- Knowledge of cloud security architectures and best practices (AWS, Azure, GCP).
- Experience with DevSecOps principles and practices.
- Strong understanding of IAM concepts, technologies, and standards (e.g., OAuth, SAML, OpenID Connect).
- Relevant certifications (e.g., Certified Information Privacy Technologist (CIPT), Certified Data Management Professional (CDMP), CISSP) are a plus.
