Summary

Data Engineer role at Scholastic focused on developing software applications and systems that enhance learning experiences for teachers, students, and parents worldwide. The position involves managing the full software development lifecycle within an Agile environment.

Key Responsibilities: Develop, deliver, and manage the lifecycle of new and existing software applications and systems; manage full software development lifecycle including building, testing, and deploying enhancements to existing software and infrastructure. Participate in Agile development process as part of a dynamic project team working closely with domain teams.
Skills & Tools: Proficiency in programming languages (Java, JavaScript, Python, C++), SQL for data wrangling and extraction, and experience with Kafka and AWS ETL frameworks (Glue, Redshift, Aurora, S3). Knowledge of data structures, algorithms, software development and testing tools, and AWS data transformation tools.
Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related field with 3 years of experience as a Data Engineer or similar role, OR Master's degree with 1 year of experience. Experience with data structures, algorithms, programming languages, SQL, Kafka, AWS services, and daily production support for data ingestion and transformation.
Location: Remote from New York, New York, United States (remote work permitted within reasonable commuting distance of NYC office)
Compensation: $120,000 – $132,000/year

Qualifications

HOW YOU CAN FIT (Qualifications)

  • Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Computer Engineering or a closely related field of study and three years of experience as a Data Engineer, Business Intelligence Analyst, Data Analyst, Intelligence Analyst or a closely related occupation.
  • OR Master’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Computer Engineering or a closely related field of study and one year of experience as a Data Engineer, Business Intelligence Analyst, Data Analyst, Intelligence Analyst or a closely related occupation.

Also requires experience in the following:

  • Data structures and algorithms.
  • Programming languages like Java, JavaScript, Python, C++.
  • Software development and testing tools.
  • Using SQL for data wrangling, extraction, and standardizing.
  • Using Kafka and Glue to ingest data from Data Lake into Redshift and Aurora.
  • Migration of the AWS ETL Framework into data transformation tool; and supporting the daily production runs for ingestion from S3, Kafka and direct API calls.
