Summary

Technical Writing Intern at Ascend Learning who will create and maintain documentation for learning platforms, supporting internal and external users. This full-time summer internship provides hands-on experience in technical documentation within a people-first, outcomes-driven organization.

Key Responsibilities: Edit, create, and maintain content for learning platforms; research and write client-oriented documentation for software components; create announcements and help documentation; organize internal reference materials in company Wiki; attend meetings to understand documentation needs and incorporate feedback iteratively.
Skills & Tools: Basic HTML and Wiki knowledge, excellent writing and editing skills, familiarity with technical writing principles, proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, strong organizational skills, attention to detail, ability to research unfamiliar topics, and excellent verbal and written communication.
Qualifications: Currently enrolled in a bachelor's degree program in technical writing or related disciplines such as communications, creative writing, or business analysis. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with attention to detail and a willingness to learn.
Location: Hybrid in Leawood, Kansas, United States; remote candidates will be considered
Compensation: $15 – $25/hourly

WHAT YOU’LL DO

We are searching for a Technical Writing Intern in our Product organization. The Technical Writing Intern will work alongside the Product teams to provide internal and external documentation for Ascend’s various learning platforms for both employees and clients. The role consults with subject matter experts for information about software components, assists with intercompany communication regarding new products, works within content management systems and generates written help documentation and announcements for clients. This is a full-time position for students pursuing degrees in Technical Writing or other related disciplines for Summer 2025.

WHERE YOU’LL WORK

This position will work a hybrid schedule from our office in Leawood, KS. Remote candidates will be considered.

HOW YOU’LL SPEND YOUR TIME

  • Edit, maintain and create content for various learning platforms
  • Research and write client-oriented documentation for new and updated software components
  • Create and post software enhancement and general communication announcements
  • Establish framework and structure for ongoing sustainable documentation management with support for TPM leadership
  • Attend various meetings and conversations to gain a better understanding of technologies and documentation needs.
  • Provide iterative updates to TPM leadership. Incorporate feedback in a timely manner
  • Organize internal reference material within the company Wiki
  • Revise and contribute to stand-alone help documentation for individual tools

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

  • Currently enrolled in a bachelor’s degree in a technical writing or other related disciplines (e.g. communications, creative writing, business analysis)
  • Basic HTML and Wiki knowledge
  • Familiarity with technical writing principles
  • Ability to thoroughly research and learn in areas that may be unfamiliar
  • Excellent writing and editing skills
  • Demonstrated organizational and teamwork skills, strong attention to detail, and a willingness to work collaboratively
  • Proficient using the Microsoft Office applications suite
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
