Summary

The Financial Aid Specialist provides expert guidance to students and families on financial aid options, assists with applications, and ensures regulatory compliance while collaborating with campus departments. This role is critical in helping students understand and access the financial resources needed to pursue their educational goals.

Key Responsibilities: Assist students with financial aid applications including FAFSA completion, evaluate eligibility for aid programs based on financial circumstances, stay current on federal and state regulations, and conduct educational workshops for students and families on financial aid options.
Skills & Tools: Requires 2+ years of financial aid experience, strong analytical skills to assess financial need and eligibility, excellent communication and interpersonal abilities, detail-oriented task management, proficiency with financial aid management software, and ethical professional conduct with confidentiality awareness.
Qualifications: Minimum 2 years of direct experience in financial aid at a college or university, Bachelor's degree in a related field such as finance, accounting, or education, and in-depth knowledge of federal and state financial aid programs including FAFSA and Title IV regulations. Relevant certifications in financial aid administration are preferred.

About the Team

On the Financial Aid Team, our goal is to assist students and their families in navigating the complexities of financial aid with clarity and confidence. This team is composed of Financial Aid Specialists who engage with prospective and current students daily, providing expert guidance and support. By helping students understand their financial options, we ensure they have the resources needed to pursue and achieve their educational goals.

About the Role

We are seeking a Financial Aid Specialist to help students make informed decisions about their educational financing options. This role requires expertise in financial aid programs, scholarships, grants, and loans. You’ll collaborate closely with Admissions, Student Success, and other internal teams to support students throughout their educational journey. This position reports to the Director of Financial Aid.

You’re excited about this opportunity because you will…

  • Provide guidance and support to students and their families throughout the financial aid process. Answer inquiries, address concerns, and offer advice on available financial aid resources
  • Assist students in completing financial aid applications, including the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and other relevant forms. Review applications for accuracy, completeness, and eligibility
  • Evaluate students' financial circumstances to determine their eligibility for various financial aid programs. Assess income, assets, and other factors to calculate the expected family contribution (EFC) and determine the need for aid
  • Stay up-to-date with federal, state, and institutional regulations and policies governing financial aid programs. Ensure adherence to these guidelines throughout the aid process
  • Collaborate with other campus departments to conduct workshops, seminars, and information sessions to educate students, families, and staff about financial aid options, policies, and processes

  • You have a minimum of 2 years of direct experience of working in the financial aid functional area in a college or university setting
  • You have a Bachelor's degree in a related field (e.g., finance, accounting, or education). Relevant certifications or professional development in financial aid administration preferred
  • You have in-depth knowledge of federal and state financial aid programs, policies, and regulations, including FAFSA and Title IV regulations
  • You have strong analytical skills to assess financial need and eligibility criteria accurately
  • You have excellent communication and interpersonal skills to provide clear and concise information to diverse audiences
  • You are detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
  • You are familiar with financial aid management software and databases
  • You uphold ethical and professional conduct, ensuring confidentiality and privacy of student information

What you’ll get:

  • A compensation package that includes a base salary ($50,000 - $56,000) + equity grant
  • Actual compensation within the pay range will be decided based on factors including, but not limited to, skills, prior relevant experience, and specific work location. For roles that are available to be filled remotely, base salary is localized according to employee work location.
