About the role: The Security Engineer I is an entry-level position proving exposure to Cyber Security through the performance of basic tasks centered on supporting and maintaining security infrastructure and processes.

About the team: The Elsevier Information Security Data Protection team is entrusted with protecting our systems and content.  

Requirements

  • Possess an interest in breaking into Cyber Security; starting on this team opens you up to progress into different areas within the security organization
  • Basic technical problem-solving skills
  • Basic knowledge of cloud environments
  • Experience with patching systems in an enterprise setting
  • Basic understanding of IT security industry standards
  • Basic knowledge of IT network concepts and processes
  • Preliminary understanding of programming concepts

ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Supporting assignments involving the execution of a series of cyber security infrastructure tasks in cloud environments.
  • Documenting and investigating infrastructure health alerts as directed and monitored by senior-level colleagues
  • Escalating to the appropriate security team when a confirmed health incident has been identified or if maintenance doesn't go as planned
  • Assisting in gathering metrics and preparing reports for applicable stakeholders
  • Remaining current on industry standards for security in an emerging technology environment.
  • Proposing and collaborating on implementing automations to reduce manual repetitive tasks
