Summary

Touchstone Graders evaluate and score student science work for content accuracy and rubric adherence while providing constructive feedback. This role is essential to maintaining educational quality standards and supporting learner success at a distance education institution.

Key Responsibilities: Grade student submissions against detailed rubrics, provide written feedback and scoring, check for plagiarism and grammar errors, and participate in calibration sessions to ensure consistent grading quality across courses.
Skills & Tools: Subject matter expertise in science, strong written and verbal communication abilities, proficiency with Microsoft Office and learning management systems, excellent time management and prioritization skills, and ability to maintain confidentiality and sound judgment.
Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in a relevant field required; Master's degree preferred. Current or prior high school or post-secondary teaching experience in science is required.
Location: United States of America (hybrid/flexible with up to 10% travel requirement)
Compensation: $19.50 – $29.75/hour (as stated by employer); annualized estimate approximately $40,560 – $61,880/year for full-time equivalent based on hourly range provided

Job Description

Graders evaluate submitted student work for content, competency and adherence to the instructions and rubric. Graders are held to efficiency and quality goals.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Accurately read and measure student performance based against a grading rubric.
  • Collaboratively work with the Lead for the course(s) to provide the student with constructive, supportive and concise feedback.
  • Complete grading rubrics and leave detailed feedback and comments for the learner.
  • Check student submissions for plagiarism and for grammar.
  • Provide in-context feedback and scoring using the Sophia-provided rubric.
  • Participate in calibration efforts to ensure consistency of quality for our learners.

Work Experience:

• Current or prior HS or Post-secondary teaching experience in science.

Education:

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution is required; Master’s degree is preferred.

  • None

Other:

  • Must be able to travel up to 10% of the time.
  • Must be able to lift 25 lbs.
  • Typical office setting.
  • Mobility within the office including movement from floor to floor.
  • Travel via plane, car, and metro may be required to perform this job.
  • Must be able to work more than 40 hours per week when business needs warrant.
  • Access information using a computer.
  • Effectively communicate, both up and down the management chain.
  • Effectively cope with stressful situations.
  • Strong mental acuity.
  • Regular, dependable attendance and punctuality are essential functions of this job.
  • Other essential functions and marginal job functions are subject to modification
