Summary

Account Manager for Oxford University Press's law portfolio, responsible for developing and implementing business strategy to drive sales growth in the US and Canadian legal sector. This role involves building relationships with practitioner law clients and generating new business opportunities through consultative selling.

Key Responsibilities: Present and promote OUP's academic law portfolio to customers, build and maintain strong client relationships, track sales leads and pipeline management, coordinate research into new business prospects, and communicate market feedback to internal stakeholders. Also responsible for meeting annual sales targets, budget preparation, and attendance at industry conferences.
Skills & Tools: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to manage complex, high-volume workloads. Proficiency with Excel and other software systems, with proven aptitude for learning new platforms; consultative sales and customer service orientation preferred.
Qualifications: Previous sales or marketing experience in a customer-facing environment required; experience in the legal sector is desirable but not required. Should demonstrate resilience, team collaboration, and ability to work independently in a matrixed environment.
Location: Hybrid/Remote in United States; can be based in New York, NY or Cary, NC offices or fully remote. Some travel required for conferences and sales activities.
Compensation: Estimated: $65,000 – $85,000/year based on Account Manager role at established academic publisher, US location, and mid-market account responsibility.

ABOUT THE ROLE

This is an exciting new role that will work to make lasting change at Oxford University Press. Working collaboratively with a growing international team, this role will be responsible for taking our law portfolio and tailoring it for new clients in the legal sector in the US and Canada. The role will also proactively sell our products through new business generation and account management and maintenance. This role is perfect for someone who is resilient, customer service driven, interested in learning, and a team player. Some travel is required for this role for conferences and sales. The role can be done in a hybrid model out of our New York, NY or Cary, NC offices or remotely in the United States.

Key Responsibilities include:

1. To develop and implement a business strategy for the relevant territory/ sector and to update this on a regular basis to assist OUP in the US to meet its required annual sales targets.
2. To present and promote OUP Academic Law Portfolio to relevant customers in the territory. These customers will include practitioner law accounts as required by the Sales Manager.
3. Using a consultative sales approach, build and maintain strong relationships with customers within the specified territory/ sector to maximize interest in the division’s products and satisfy customer needs.
4. Establish and maintain regular communication with other OUP departments to report feedback from the markets to key stakeholders within the business to help ensure that OUP’s sales, marketing and product development strategies are market-orientated.
5. Track and report on sales leads for the specified territory/ sector as required, using agreed systems and procedures to manage the opportunity pipeline through to completion.
6. Co-ordinate research into new prospects and new business opportunities for Practitioner law products in order to identify areas for growth.
7. Input into annual budget preparations for sales revenue and maintain records of overheads for the territory so that targets are agreed and adhered to.
8. Build a thorough understanding of OUP Academic product types across the various formats and the business models by which they are made available to customers. In addition, through dealings with customers and attendance of key conferences etc., to develop a good understanding of external market for OUP’s products and services.
9. To uphold proactively the ethical standards and behaviors expected by the Press through full engagement with, and adherence to, OUP’s Anti-bribery and Fraud policy and guidelines

ABOUT YOU

  • Previous experience of sales or marketing, preferably in a customer facing environment
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Highly skilled in using software packages such as Excel, with a proven aptitude to learn and work with new systems
  • Ability to effectively manage a high volume, complex workload through prioritization of tasks in line with departmental objectives.
  • Experience of the legal sector desirable but not required

Position Location: This role can be hybrid, based out of Cary, NC (2 times a week in office) or New York City, NY, or remote in the United States.

GJC Level: I5 (for internal purposes only) 

Salary: $49,700-$71,000 dependent on skills and experience
