Job Description Summary:
We are looking for a Copy Editor, Manager, Science to lead the copy editing team and collaborate with different teams (e.g., curriculum, product, design, Amplify Editorial) to review and improve the clarity of our materials. You’ll join the copy editing team in being the final eyes on our content before it is published. You’ll also join our content team in thinking about how best to build engaging and effective lessons that support all students.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Drive the voice and editorial decisions of the science team (in collaboration with other leads), ensure consensus across teams, and oversee consistent understanding and application.
- Draft the copyediting style guide, incorporate relevant feedback, and ensure the style guide is continually maintained.
- Ensure the accuracy, clarity, and appropriateness of all content.
- Copy edit ad hoc projects, as needed.
- Make science editorial decisions in collaboration with copy editors, product and content leads, and Amplify Editorial; ensure science editorial decisions are in alignment with organizational editorial decisions.
- Train, support, and manage a team of K-8 science copy editors.
- Establish and maintain a healthy, productive culture within the science copy editing team.
- Ensure that the science products reflect Amplify’s Editorial Guidelines.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree
- 5+ years of editing expertise in either print or digital media.
- 3+ years of experience leading teams in a management role.
- Ability to apply established style guidelines consistently.
- Impeccable grasp of grammar rules.
- Familiarity with content management platforms, Google docs, and Adobe.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 2+ years of experience editing for science.
- Experience with developing science curricula, both print and digital.
- Experience with Amplify Classroom or Desmos.
- Ability to work with different authors and edit for different audiences.
- Ability to wordsmith (rewrite sentences) to improve tone and readability while preserving the original meaning written by authors.
What we offer:
Salary is only one component of the Amplify Total Rewards package, which includes a 401(k) plan, stock options, competitive health insurance and mental health options, basic life insurance, paid time off, parental leave, and access to best-in-class development programs. The gross salary range for this role is $85,000 - $90,000. This role is eligible to earn an annual discretionary bonus that rewards individual and company performance.
