Special Education Professional Development Content Developer and Facilitator
Exceptional Educational ServicesRole Snapshot
Co-develop and co-facilitate a federally funded professional development institute for special education instructional coaches, delivering high-impact training grounded in High-Leverage Practices to drive meaningful change in schools and districts.
Job Description
About the Opportunity
Exceptional Educational Services LLC is building a team of experienced special education professionals for a federally funded, statewide instructional coaching initiative. The project involves designing and delivering high-impact professional development that enhances teaching strategies, promotes inclusive classroom environments, and equips special education instructional coaches to drive meaningful change in their schools and districts.
The initiative centers on an intensive multi-day professional development institute for special education instructional coaches and mentors. This is not intended to be a one-and-done training, so there may be opportunities for our facilitators to participate in follow-up engagements during the school year.
We are seeking co-developers and co-facilitators to join a collaborative, forward-thinking team for curriculum development and institute delivery. This is a 1099 subcontractor role with work spanning the summer and early fall with potential to extend for up to twelve months.

- Design interactive sessions and materials aligned to adult learning theory
- Create clear, polished instructional materials including facilitator guides, participant handouts, and coaching tools
- Collaborate with the lead facilitator and fellow team members to ensure content accuracy, coherence, and relevance across all sessions
- Participate in iterative curriculum review and revision cycles
Institute Delivery (In-Person)
- Co-facilitate a multi-day in-person instructional coaching institute
- Lead sessions on coaching practices, HLPs, instructional strategies, and data-driven coaching
- Facilitate small group breakouts and coaching practice activities
- Provide real-time support and feedback during participant practice sessions
Follow-Up Support - as-needed (Virtual)
- Co-facilitate monthly virtual coaching cohort sessions with institute participants
- Provide asynchronous support to participants throughout the school year
- Contribute to ongoing evaluation and continuous improvement of training content based on participant feedback and coaching outcomes
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of experience in special education as an educator, instructional coach, or administrator
- Demonstrated knowledge of High-Leverage Practices (HLPs) in special education
- Experience designing and/or delivering professional development for educators
- Strong facilitation and presentation skills with the ability to make complex concepts accessible and engaging for adult learners
- Strong writing skills for creating clear instructional materials, facilitator guides, and participant resources
- Ability to manage contract deliverables alongside other professional commitments and meet deadlines independently
- Ability to travel for 5-7 consecutive days for in-person institute delivery (Late Summer or Early Fall 2026 - exact dates TBD)
- Two professional references who can speak to your PD facilitation or coaching expertise
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in Wyoming and/or the western U.S. region
- Familiarity with state-level special education initiatives, including alternative certification or exception authorization pathways
- Experience with instructional coaching models.
- Background in specially designed instruction (SDI) and IEP-driven lesson planning
- Prior work on federally funded education initiatives (IDEA, ESEA, ESSA)
- National Board Certification or advanced degree in special education or related field
Compensation Structure:
In-person delivery days $1,200 - $1,800 per day
Curriculum development (remote) $75 per hour
Virtual follow-up facilitation (remote) $75 per hour
Travel expenses for in-person delivery (airfare, lodging, meals, and ground transportation) are covered by Exceptional Educational Services.
