Summary

The Staff Accountant will provide foundational support across Parallel's core accounting functions, playing a key role in maintaining the accounting department for an early-stage startup. This role is ideal for a critical thinker with strong analytical skills who is passionate about growing with a mission-oriented company.

Key Responsibilities: Manage monthly and quarterly closing processes including journal entries and reconciliations, process accounts payable and receivable transactions, ensure accurate billing, and perform cash and bank reconciliations. Additionally, support internal and external audits, assist with tax filings and compliance, and contribute to ad hoc financial reporting and process improvement projects.
Skills & Tools: Strong understanding of US GAAP accounting principles, proficiency in Excel and QuickBooks, and familiarity with other accounting software. Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, ability to prioritize in a fast-paced environment, and strong communication and teamwork abilities.
Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field with 1–3 years of accounting or finance experience. Prior experience working in an early-stage startup is preferred.
Location: Remote from New York, New York, United States (Hybrid setup in NYC office available)

Position Overview

The Staff Accountant will play a key role in maintaining Parallel’s Accounting function: providing foundational support across core accounting functions. The ideal candidate has prior experience working in an early stage start-up, is a critical thinker, possesses excellent analytical skills, and has a deep understanding of accounting and finance. This role is ideal for someone who is willing to learn and grow with a mission-oriented company.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with monthly and quarterly close processes including journal entries and reconciliations
  • Process accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions
  • Help ensure accurate and timely customer billing
  • Review expense reports and credit card transactions
  • Perform cash and bank account reconciliations
  • Support internal and external audits with documentation
  • Assist with federal, state, and local tax filings and compliance
  • Contribute to ad hoc projects and financial reporting needs
  • Recommend and support process improvements in accounting workflows

The Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • 1–3 years of accounting or finance experience
  • Strong understanding of US GAAP accounting principles
  • Proficiency in Excel and QuickBooks; familiarity with other softwares a plus
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail
  • Ability to prioritize in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills

  • Authorization to work in the United States

This role's annual base salary range is competitive, with the added advantage of equity options.
