Summary

The University of Central Florida seeks an experienced Chief Information Officer to lead university-wide IT strategy and optimize technology capabilities in support of UCF's academic and research mission. This strategic leadership role reports to the Vice President for Administrative Operations and ensures IT alignment with the institution's goal of becoming a top 50 public research university.

Key Responsibilities: Establish and execute university-wide IT strategy while ensuring integration with academic and administrative goals, and oversee delivery of all information and technology capabilities required for successful institutional performance. The role requires managing large, complex IT teams and maintaining infrastructure uptime and reliability across a 69,000-student institution.
Skills & Tools: Expertise in IT infrastructure, systems, and applications; proven ability to lead and manage large, complex teams; excellent verbal and written communication skills; and strong knowledge of information security practices and emerging technologies. Demonstrated ability to build effective stakeholder relationships, drive innovation in technology strategy, and ensure regulatory compliance.
Qualifications: Bachelor's degree required, master's degree or higher preferred; minimum 15 years of relevant IT experience with at least 10 years in leadership roles. Demonstrated success in developing and implementing IT strategic plans, infrastructure reliability, stakeholder engagement, compliance, security, and building high-functioning teams.

Chief Information Officer

The University of Central Florida (UCF) invites applications, expressions of interest, and nominations for the role of Chief information Officer. UCF seeks an experienced, strategic, and highly effective information technology leader with strong interpersonal and communication skills to provide decision-support to the University’s executive and academic leadership to optimize the strategic allocation of university resources to support UCF’s academic and research mission.

Founded in 1963 to provide talent for Central Florida, UCF has become one of the largest and most innovative universities in the United States with more than 69,000 students. It has more than 13,000 employees and an operating budget of over $2 billion. UCF researchers received $229 million in fiscal year 2024 for funded research. UCF’s main campus is 13 miles east of downtown Orlando and adjacent to one of the top research parks in the nation. The University also has an accredited College of Medicine in the Medical City at Lake Nona, Rosen College of Hospitality Management located off International Drive, a campus in downtown Orlando, and UCF Connect locations throughout Central Florida.

Reporting to the Vice President for Administrative Operations and Chief Infrastructure Officer, the Chief Information Officer (CIO) is responsible for establishing and executing the university-wide IT strategy, ensuring its integration with academic and administrative strategies. The role oversees the delivery of all information and technology capabilities required for successful academic and administrative performance.

Qualifications : A bachelor’s degree is required, a master’s degree or higher is preferred. Candidates must have at least fifteen years of relevant IT experience, with a minimum of 10 years in leadership roles.

Candidates should demonstrate success in the following areas: Developing and implementing an IT strategic plan, producing uptime and reliability of infrastructure and services, creating positive results with stakeholders, effective compliance with regulation and information security, developing high functioning teams, and being innovative with technology strategy. Additionally, candidates should have extensive knowledge of IT infrastructure, systems, and applications; proven ability to lead and manage large, complex teams; excellent verbal and written communication skills; strong ability to build and maintain effective working relationships; ability to stay current with emerging technologies and drive innovation; and knowledge of information security practices and ability to ensure compliance.
