Summary

National Literacy Consultant for Benchmark Education Company's West region, responsible for delivering professional development and implementation support for literacy curriculum programs to K-12 administrators, coaches, and teachers across multiple states.

Key Responsibilities: Conduct onsite and remote training on BEC literacy programs, provide classroom coaching and lesson modeling, develop instructional materials and presentations, and deliver professional development webinars while traveling up to 80% of the time to support customer implementation and success.
Skills & Tools: Expert presentation and adult learning facilitation skills, strong proficiency with Microsoft Office and communication platforms (Zoom, Teams), ability to leverage technology for instruction, superior interpersonal and communication abilities, and demonstrated capacity to influence stakeholders and manage customer relationships.
Qualifications: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Education with minimum 5 years of K-12 teaching experience in literacy, Science of Reading, intervention, or ELL support; knowledge of research-based instructional strategies and technology integration; and experience with high-quality adult learning practices.
Location: West region (Oregon-based, US); requires up to 80% travel with overnight stays
Compensation: Not provided by employer. Typical compensation for this role is $65,000 – $85,000/year based on title, seniority, and location.

Job Description

*We are seeking a National Literacy Consultant within the West region.

Position Purpose:

The literacy consultant plays a vital role in contributing towards improving the standards of education. They are actively involved and responsible for demonstrating professional credibility by providing the necessary consultation and training for BEC programs and related topics.

Key Responsibilities

The literacy consultant is a Benchmark product and professional development specialist providing onsite and remote implementation/service as determined by the Region Consultant Manager. The literacy consultant is responsible for providing consultation and training to administrators, coaches, teachers and other district staff based on the training material that has been provided to him/her. Primary responsibilities include:

  • Train administrators, coaches, teachers and other district staff on the implementation of Benchmark Education Company print and digital curriculum.
  • Conduct professional development and in-service training on all products for new and current users.
  • Demonstrate a thorough understanding of all products and pedagogy behind the products.
  • Support the development of instructional material, presentation resources, pacing plans and handouts used to train customers.
  • Provide highly effective presentations and webinars of our products to internal and external customers.
  • Support individuals and small groups of teachers through coaching/ modeling of quality literacy lessons in classroom settings.
  • Develop and share best practices around emerging educational initiatives, technologies and instructional practices.
  • Learn independently, conduct research, synthesize and apply information from a variety of resources.
  • Train administrators, coaches, and teachers to differentiate instruction using best practices with a blended learning environment.
  • Work remotely while traveling up to 80% of the time including overnight stays.
  • Build strong relationships with team members and customers.
  • Provide internal reporting on each training in a timely manner.
  • Communicate internally and externally to influence customer and market needs.
  • Demonstrate the ability to identify customer needs and up-sell print, digital, and professional development when working with schools and their leadership.
  • Ensure adherence to the existing work practices, procedures and methods with involvement in relevant training and development activities.

Experience and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Education
  • At least 5 years of experience in K-12 education
  • High energy, self-motivated, supportive, organized, results-oriented and ethical with positive outlook
  • Teaching experience in one or of the following: Comprehensive Literacy, Science of Reading Research, Intervention Work, English Language Learner Support
  • Knowledge of effective/research-based instructional strategies and how to leverage technology to enhance these strategies
  • Demonstrated experience using high-quality adult learning practices
  • Experience using technology in the classroom to advance instruction
  • Strong comfort level with communication technology skills including understanding current computer software, word processing, a variety of online browsers as well as skill with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Power Point, Zoom, TEAMS and online web/based tools (Understanding of Google Classroom a plus)
  • Familiarity with state standards across dedicated region and best practices in the use of educational technology
  • Superior communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills with the ability to present to large audiences and key decision-making stakeholders in sales situations
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully work in a cross-functional environment on a daily basis to achieve and exceed desired goals
  • Demonstrated capacity to be a catalyst for change with the ability to remain neutral and constructive when faced with customer concerns, well organized and collaborative
  • Must be able to travel up to 80% of the time including overnight stays
  • Must be able to travel by airplane and car, often traveling up to 4-5 hours to locations
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds on a regular basis
  • Must have a valid diver license for driving and a REAL ID or Passport for flying
  • Must live near a major metropolitan airport
