As a Manager, Transmission Planning and Interconnection Studies, you’ll lead the team that strengthens grid reliability, supports renewable integration, and advances grid modernization for our clients. You’ll work closely with utilities, independent power producers, and independent system operators (ISOs) to deliver power system studies that inform real investment and reliability decisions, while coaching and growing a team of transmission planning engineers. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working at the intersection of power system analysis, client delivery, and team leadership, brings strong judgment to complex technical problems, and wants to contribute to work that shapes real-world decisions in the energy industry.

In this role, you will:

  • Lead and mentor a team of transmission planning and interconnection study engineers

  • Own client relationships and delivery of interconnection, stability, and reliability studies

  • Oversee the quality of power flow, voltage stability, transient stability, and short-circuit analyses

  • Conduct studies in areas such as generator connections, voltage stability, arc-flash energy, insulation coordination, and power station design

  • Review technical reports and ensure deliverables meet client specifications for reliability, regulation, and quality

  • Manage project scope, staffing, and schedule across a portfolio of concurrent engagements

  • Contribute hands-on to complex or high-impact studies alongside the team

  • Partner with global colleagues to scale capacity and deliver consistent, high-quality work

  • Drive business development by shaping proposals, scoping engagements, and identifying new client opportunities

  • Represent E Source with utilities, IPPs, and ISOs, translating technical findings for executive audiences

  • Manage and execute power system studies, including load flow, transient stability, and short-circuit analyses, for generator interconnection and load requests

  • Prepare scopes of work in response to requests for power system analysis projects

  • Lead cross-functional teams to deliver engineering projects on time and within budget

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to define project scopes, requirements, and deliverables

  • Conduct risk assessments to identify potential challenges and implement mitigation strategies

  • Review technical deliverables for accuracy, ensuring compliance with industry standards, regulations, and client requirements

  • Optimize resource allocation, managing budgets and staffing across multiple concurrent projects

  • Present progress reports to executive leadership and stakeholders, demonstrating delivery against project milestones, timelines, and budgets

  • Develop strategic plans to align engineering efforts with organizational goals and objectives

  • Mentor junior engineers, fostering professional growth and knowledge sharing within the team

You’re likely a great fit if you:

  • Can lead engineers while staying hands-on with the technical work

  • Balance client delivery, team development, and technical quality across competing priorities

  • Communicate complex study results clearly to technical peers and executive stakeholders

  • Navigate ambiguity and make sound judgment calls on scope, methods, and schedule

  • Care about quality, reliability, and the growth of the engineers you lead

And even better if you:

  • Have prior consulting or client-facing power systems experience

  • Hold a master’s or Ph.D. in power systems engineering

  • Have led studies across multiple ISOs (for example, MISO, CAISO, PJM, or SPP)

  • Have contributed to open-source tools or published technical writing on transmission planning

Experience and Skills to Qualify Include: (These are must haves unless specified otherwise)

  • 10+ years of power systems analysis experience, including 3+ years leading engineers, projects, or client engagements

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering

  • Deep proficiency with PSS/E for load-flow, short-circuit, and transient stability analysis

  • Experience with at least one additional planning tool such as PSLF, TARA, DigSILENT, or DSA Tools

  • Proven experience leading stability studies, congestion analysis and cost modeling, or cluster feasibility studies across one or more ISOs

  • Working knowledge of synchronous generators, motors, power electronic inverters, wind turbines, and solar systems

  • Experience with static and dynamic modeling of power system components, including high-voltage direct current (HVDC), voltage source converters (VSC), static var compensators (SVC), static synchronous compensators (STATCOM), and thyristor-controlled series capacitors (TCSC)

  • Working knowledge of reliability standards, interconnection processes, substation layout, and protection and control

  • Demonstrated ability to manage client relationships and deliver on time and within budget

  • Strong oral and written communication skills

  • IPLAN and/or Python programming is an asset
