Summary

Data Scientist role focused on enhancing the efficiency of Figma's data science team by improving data quality, developing internal tools, and applying novel statistical methods. This position directly impacts the productivity and rigor of all data practitioners across the organization.

Key Responsibilities: Introduce new statistical methodologies to increase analysis rigor, create and deploy frameworks and tools to improve data practitioner productivity, collaborate with Engineering to optimize processes, identify data gaps and work with Data Engineering to develop new datasets, and establish partnerships across cross-functional teams including Product, Research, Design, Sales, and Marketing.
Skills & Tools: Fluency in SQL, proficiency in Python, R, or similar scripting languages, experience with distributed data processing systems (Hive, Redshift, Presto, Snowflake, Spark), expertise with machine learning frameworks (PyTorch, TensorFlow, Scikit-Learn, SparkMLlib), strong statistical knowledge, and excellent problem-solving and communication skills with a passion for mentoring.
Qualifications: 5+ years of relevant work experience in Analytics, Data Science, or Software Engineering. Strong track record of collaborating across functions to drive impact and self-starting mindset with excellent judgment in navigating complex problems.
Location: San Francisco, CA or New York, NY, United States
Compensation: Estimated: $190,000 – $260,000/year based on Data Scientist seniority (5+ years), Figma's market position as a high-growth design platform company, and San Francisco/New York locations.

We are seeking an experienced Data Scientist to join Figma's Core Data Science Team. In this role, you will focus on enhancing the efficiency of Data Scientists and other data practitioners at Figma by improving data quality, developing internal tools, and applying novel statistical methods to problems specific to Figma. The ideal candidate is passionate about transforming new methodologies and best practices into useful tools for others, has a proven track record of collaborating across different functions to drive impact, and is enthusiastic about creative problem-solving.

What You'll Do:

  • Introduce new methods to increase the rigor of the analyses conducted by the Data Science team
  • Create and deploy frameworks and tools to help increase the efficiency and productivity of data practitioners at Figma.
  • Collaborate with the broader Engineering org to identify opportunities to improve their processes and impact
  • Identify gaps in our data and work with other Data Scientists and Data Engineering to develop new datasets that help us understand how users are interacting with Figma
  • Design and implement new processes and tools to improve data quality and assist with data governance
  • Establish partnerships with cross-functional teams including Engineering, Product, Research, Design, Sales, and Marketing

We’d love to hear from you if you have:

  • 5+ years relevant work experience in Analytics, Data Science or Software Engineering
  • Fluency in SQL
  • Excellent programming skills in Python, R, or a similar scripting language
  • Experience in distributed data processing systems and framework (Hive, Redshift, Presto, Snowflake, Spark, etc)
  • Experience developing machine learning models with common machine learning frameworks and packages like PyTorch, TensorFlow, Scikit-Learn, and SparkMLlib
  • Firm knowledge of statistical methods
  • Experience navigating complex problems, identifying solutions, and driving the execution of those solutions
  • Excellent judgment and creative problem solving skills
  • A self-starting mindset along with strong communication and collaboration skills
  • A passion for mentoring and helping other colleagues
