Summary

Field Engineer II at Bluum is an intermediate to advanced AV integration role responsible for deploying complex audiovisual solutions, configuring control systems, and providing technical expertise across Crestron, Extron, and QSC platforms.

Key Responsibilities: Deploy and configure complex AV systems in the field, troubleshoot issues collaboratively with programmers, commission systems to Bluum standards, and train clients on system operation and maintenance. Provide technical support to internal and external teams, advise on change orders and enhancements, and gather real-world feedback on design standards.
Skills & Tools: Proficiency in DSP design and programming (Biamp, QSC), knowledge of Crestron, Extron, and QSC control systems, AV networking configuration, computer networking and switch configuration, and intermediate troubleshooting skills. Strong communication and client-facing capabilities required for training and sales consultation.
Qualifications: 4+ years of lead installation or engineering experience, with relevant engineering degree preferred. Industry certifications required or highly valued: CTS (AVIXA), Q-Sys Level 2, Biamp TesiraFORTE, Dante Level II, Crestron DMC-D-4K, and Crestron Flex certification.

Compensation: Not provided by employer. Typical compensation for this role is $75,000 – $95,000/year based on title, seniority, and location.

Job Description

Summary

A Bluum Field Engineer II represents intermediate to advanced expertise and experience in AV integration. Field Engineer II’s are tasked with deploying complex solutions for the most complex integrated systems. In addition to configuring, testing, and consulting on mid-tier projects, Field Engineer II’s are called on to train clients on proper system operation and maintenance.

Field Engineer II candidates will be expected to have knowledge of all three major control systems offered by Bluum (Crestron, Extron, and QSC), industry standard configuration of AV networks, and intermediate troubleshooting skills. Additionally, a Field Engineer II should have knowledge of and ability in DSP design across all platforms and specific knowledge of intermediate programming for one of Bluum’s preferred DSP platforms (Biamp and QSC.)

Responsibilities 

  • System Deployment
  • Prep systems for deployment in shop (firmware upgrades, load and pre-test code, configure standalone AV networks)
  • Configure systems in the field to assure all scope of work points have been covered
  • Work with programmers to remotely identify and correct complex bugs
  • Commission systems per Bluum standards, including extended commissioning practices as purchased by clients
  • Advise clients of possible change orders or enhancements available to deployed systems
  • Train clients on proper system operation and maintenance (where applicable)
  • Technical Support 
  • Assist technical service staff with break fix issues
  • On site service assistance for complex issues as needed
  • Provide technical support to customers having functionality issues with their systems or components
  • Standards Implementation and Maintenance 
  • Work with fellow Field Engineers to assure standard implementation
  • Report back to Design Engineers and Programmers with “real world” feedback of standards viability
  • System Consultation 
  • Work closely with design and programming staff to identify issues before system deployment
  • Participate in remote and on-site client sales calls to advise internal and external clients of AV industry best practices
  • Vet and “bench test” new technology for integration into Bluum standard designs

Experience, Education & Skills

  • 4+ years of lead install or engineering experience
  • College degrees in relevant Engineering fields will also be considered
  • Knowledge of DSP theory, and programming including: AGC, AEC, USB routing, Room Combining, etc
  • Knowledge of installation best practices, including wiring, troubleshooting, and configuration of complex systems
  • Knowledge of computer networks and switch configuration
