Summary

Senior Software Engineer role with OCLC's eResources team, developing features for key resources and interfaces that enhance global information access. The position involves leading small teams, mentoring junior engineers, and contributing to complex systems supporting libraries worldwide.

Key Responsibilities: Develop and enhance features for RESTful services and React-based UIs, including Big Data processing with Hadoop. Lead small teams, provide technical guidance, conduct code reviews, participate in architectural discussions, and collaborate across managers, architects, QA, product owners, and infrastructure teams.
Skills & Tools: Strong programming skills in Java, experience developing RESTful web services, familiarity with cloud platforms and relational database management systems (RDBMS). Leadership and mentoring capabilities, with expertise in code quality standards and architectural decision-making.
Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in computer science or related discipline, or equivalent work experience. Minimum 5+ years of software development experience, including hands-on work with Java and RESTful services.
Location: Hybrid in Dublin, United States of America (3 days per week on-site)
Compensation: $110,000 – $160,000/year

The Job Details are as follows:

Develop features and enhancements for the eResources team. Join an established team which supports key OCLC resources and interfaces, including the Knowledge Base, Collection Manager, and Central Index. The successful candidate will effectively interact with managers, architects, technical leads, QA, product owners, infrastructure, and security to deliver changes and system enhancements according to priorities and agreed upon schedules. Specifically, this role will support feature development for RESTful services, including React based UI’s, as well as Big Data processing (Hadoop). Additional development assignments may also be requested as needed to support overall team goals.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead small teams and mentor junior engineers.
  • Design and implement complex features and systems.
  • Provide technical guidance and expertise to the team.
  • Participate in architectural discussions and decisions.
  • Conduct code reviews and ensure code quality standards

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or related discipline, or equivalent work experience.
  • 5+ years of software development experience.
  • 5+ years Java development experience
  • · 3+ years developing RESTful web services
  • · 2+ years developing in a Linux environment
  • · Familiar with RDBMS technologies
  • Strong programming skills in one or more languages.
  • Ability to lead and mentor teams.
  • Strong problem-solving, troubleshooting skills, and analytical skills.
  • Knowledge of database systems.
  • Experience with cloud platforms.
  • Experience integrating AI tools, frameworks, and concepts into the software development process.
  • Proven track record of delivering high quality technical solutions according to desired delivery schedules
  • Good communication and teamwork skills
