Compensation: $60000 - $80000 / Annually
Position Purpose:
We are seeking a highly skilled Editorial Production Automation Engineer to join our dynamic production team. The ideal candidate will leverage their expertise in Adobe products, ExtendScript, and automation technologies to optimize and streamline editorial workflows. This role will involve creating custom scripts and tools that automate key production processes, including but not limited to Adobe InDesign file generation, image manipulation, HTML creation, and data handling with formats such as JSON and XML.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Structuring Content.
- Create product and authoring templates.
- Create programs/scripts to automate the flow of content into templates.
- Design, develop, and maintain automation scripts and tools for Adobe InDesign workflows, using ExtendScript, Adobe UXP, and other relevant technologies.
- Automate production processes such as:
- Creation of InDesign (INDD) files
- Batch image manipulation and optimization
- Generation of HTML, JSON and XML outputs
- Integration of editorial content with XML and structured data formats.
- Collaborate with editorial, design, and production teams to understand workflow pain points and opportunities for automation.
- Implement solutions for structured content workflows, including DITA XML or other content management frameworks.
- Develop and support tools that facilitate seamless exchange of data between InDesign, XML, and other content systems.
- Ensure that automated solutions integrate smoothly into existing production pipelines and tools.
- Provide technical documentation, training, and ongoing support for automation tools.
- Stay up-to-date with new Adobe technologies (e.g., UXP, ExtendScript updates) and industry trends related to automation.
- Assist with exploratory projects involving Node.js, Python, and other programming tools for broader workflow solutions.
Job Requirements/Skills and Experience:
- Expert in Adobe Creative Suite, particularly Adobe InDesign.
- Expert knowledge of ExtendScript for Adobe InDesign automation.
- Strong proficiency in XML, including the ability to work with structured and semi-structured XML data.
- Familiarity with DITA XML or other structured authoring frameworks a plus.
- Familiarity with CMI5, QTI, SCORM and other learning content delivery formats a plus.
- Experience developing scripts and tools that automate editorial and production processes.
- Problem solving mindset with the ability to translate production needs into robust automation.
- Ability to work on site (in New Rochelle) 3 days per week, and additionally as needed.
Salary Range: $60,000 - $80,000
*The base salary range represents the low and high end of the expected salary range for the position. The base salary offered may depend on a variety of factors such as geographic location, experience, education, and skill level.
