Summary

Lead the modernization of Degreed's core platform as a Senior Backend Engineer II, designing and implementing scalable services that drive customer engagement and impact the future of learning and workforce development.

Key Responsibilities: Manage the full software development lifecycle from concept to deployment, conduct architectural research and design discussions, and troubleshoot production issues to enhance system reliability and performance.
Skills & Tools: Advanced C# expertise for backend services and APIs, proficiency in modular system design, event-driven architecture (Azure Service Bus, Kafka), logging/monitoring tools (ELK, Datadog), RBAC implementation, and cloud platforms (Azure, Google Cloud). Strong collaboration and problem-solving abilities in agile environments required.
Qualifications: 8+ years of backend development experience with deep knowledge of RBAC and agile methodologies. Demonstrated expertise in designing scalable systems and working effectively with cross-functional teams.

Key Skills

  • C# Proficiency: Advanced expertise in developing robust, scalable backend services and APIs using C#. (8+ years of experience required)
  • Collaboration and Problem-Solving: Proven ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams, analyzing and resolving complex technical challenges while aligning solutions with business goals.
  • Modular System Design: Skilled in creating modular components to enhance maintainability, scalability, and system flexibility.
  • Library Development: Expertise in developing reusable libraries to standardize functionality and improve development efficiency.
  • Logging and Monitoring: Strong experience in implementing logging, monitoring, and alerting systems (e.g., ELK stack, Datadog) to ensure reliability and visibility.
  • Event-Driven Architecture: Hands-on experience with event-driven patterns (e.g., Azure Service Bus, Azure Event Grid, Kafka) for building scalable backend systems.
  • Authentication and Authorization: Deep knowledge of RBAC (Role-Based Access Control) and enhancing secure, efficient access management.
  • Agile Methodologies: Experience working in agile environments, with a demonstrated ability to adapt to changing requirements and sprint cycles.
  • Cloud Expertise: Practical experience deploying and managing services in cloud environments such as Google Cloud or Azure.

Key Responsibilities

  • Full Software Development Lifecycle: Participate in all stages of software development, from concept to deployment, ensuring high-quality deliverables.
  • Research and Design: Conduct research, build proof-of-concepts, and actively contribute to architecture and design discussions.
  • Technical Communication: Clearly articulate complex features and systems to stakeholders and team members.
  • Sprint Planning: Collaborate with Product Managers to plan and elaborate on technical stories for sprint releases.
  • Production Troubleshooting: Assist in diagnosing and resolving production issues while driving improvements in system reliability and scalability.
  • Data-Driven Decisions: Collaborate with teammates to make informed technology recommendations based on data.
  • Technology Leadership: Contribute to team commitments on design, architecture, and project estimation.

Compensation

We are committed to fair and equitable compensation practices.

The total pay range for this role is $140,000 - $160,000. 

Actual compensation packages are based on several factors that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to: skill set, depth of experience, certifications, and specific work location.
