Summary

Lead Grammarly's Identity Platform team as an Engineering Manager, defining technical strategy and vision for the company's core identity technology stack that serves 40+ million users. Drive the design, building, and maintenance of scalable, secure identity and access management systems while mentoring a high-performing engineering team.

Key Responsibilities: Define technical strategy and roadmap for the Identity Platform, lead and mentor software engineers, manage stakeholder relationships across product and design teams, and ensure compliance with security and data privacy standards. Scale the team through hiring, drive organizational OKRs, and enable efficient execution through technical mentoring and streamlined processes.
Skills & Tools: Strong software engineering background with expertise in back-end technologies, Identity & Access Management (IAM), and scalable systems architecture. Demonstrated leadership abilities, stakeholder management skills, and knowledge of emerging IAM concepts and security best practices.
Qualifications: 8+ years of software engineering experience with at least 3 years in a leadership role, with focus on scalable systems and back-end product engineering. Technical depth combined with proven team leadership capabilities in fast-paced environments.

The Opportunity

To achieve our ambitious goals, we’re looking for an Engineering Manager to lead our Identity Platform team. In this role, you will lead the engineering team responsible for designing, building, and maintaining the company's identity technology stack, which spans a wide breadth and is the core platform on top of which all other features are built. The candidate will drive strategy, vision, and execution for this team to enable building scalable, reliable, secure, efficient, and ubiquitous abstraction layers for identity capabilities. 

The ideal candidate is a technical leader with a strong software development background and considerable experience in IAM concepts. They should also showcase the ability to lead teams effectively in a fast-paced environment, following our EAGER values and MOVE principles.

As Identity Platform Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for

  • Defining the vision, technical strategy, and roadmap for Identity Platform, collaborating with relevant stakeholders, leading and mentoring a team of software engineers, and staying informed on emerging technologies in IAM (Identity & Access Management) areas.
  • Enabling the Identity Platform team to be efficient via streamlined execution and technical mentoring.
  • Stakeholder management, by partnering with product, design, and team members, acts as a bridge between engineering and other cross-functional teams to provide a best-in-class user and admin experience.
  • Security, governance, and compliance by ensuring the Identity stack complies with data privacy and security standards and establishing best practices for tracking, reporting, and data management overall.
  • Scale the team and organization by helping with hiring the brightest talent to Grammarly.
  • Be involved in driving org and company-level OKRs outside of the team's deliverables.

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of experience in software engineering, with at least 3 years in a leadership role focused on back-end product engineering, team building, and reliable and scalable distributed systems.
  • Strong experience in software development and system architecture, focusing on back-end technologies.
  • Subject matter expertise in IAM or leading IAM or similar teams would be a plus!
  • Ability to be data-driven, leveraging modern technologies.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple initiatives in a fast-paced environment.
  • High ownership mindset to drive impactful OKRs across multiple teams.
  • Ability to work with ambiguous requirements and still have a bias for action.

Grammarly takes a market-based approach to compensation, which means base pay may vary depending on your location. Our US locations are categorized into two compensation zones based on proximity to our hub locations.

Base pay may vary considerably depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The expected salary ranges for this position are outlined below by compensation zone and may be modified in the future.

United States:

Zone 1: $260,000 – $340,000/year (USD)
