MagicSchool is seeking a Senior DevEx Engineer to enhance developer efficiency and optimize workflows within our generative AI platform for teachers.

Responsibilities: Key responsibilities include identifying pain points for developers, optimizing various workflows from code deployment to build testing, building advanced toolchains, expanding platform capabilities, and creating documentation to share best practices among engineering teams.

Skills: Required skills include knowledge of JavaScript, Typescript, React, Next.js, Docker, and Vercel, along with experience in build tools and automated testing. A collaborative mindset is essential.

Qualifications: Candidates should have 5+ years of software engineering experience, with proficiency in JavaScript, TypeScript, React, and related technologies. Familiarity with automated testing platforms is ideal, along with strong communication skills.

Location: The job is located in the USA with flexibility for remote work.

Compensation: $160000 - $205000 / Annually

The Senior DevEx engineer will have focus and ownership on making every engineer at MagicSchool more effective. You'll work to ensure they have fast and reliable development environments, builds and test runs. Developer Experience isn't just about faster builds - it's a force multiplier for the entire organization.

Responsibilities:

• Find Pain Points and Opportunities
• You'll work across all our development teams to find the biggest opportunities to speed up our team, minimize distractions, and enable our product teams to focus on customers.
• Optimize Workflows
• From the developer laptop to the production build, you'll perform hands on engineering work to ensure our applications are built, tested and deployed as quickly and reliably as possible.
• Build the Next Generation Toolchain
• LLM assistants are changing developer workflows more than any other tool in decades - but if misused they might just be building a mountain of tech debt. You'll become a subject matter expert in this area - making sure LLM assistants and related tools are aligned with the team and the business.
• Expand our Platform
• Like all growth startups, we need new platforms, new infrastructure, and new services to build at the scale we need. How do we make sure that developers can jump into these new environments and succeed? That's where you come in.
• Share Knowledge
• We need all our engineers contributing efficiently; this means when we have development standards, tool configurations, and onboarding routines, these need to be shared and documented. Be ready to write developer-friendly documents and answer questions!

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience as a software engineer
• Working knowledge of Javascript, Typescript, React, Next.js, Nix, PostgreSQL, Docker, Github Actions, Vercel, Supabase
• Nice to have: Python
• Technical familiarity with build tools, automated testing platforms, and their performance characteristics
• Experience working cross-functionally or across multiple engineering teams
• Strong and proactive communicator with a collaborative and team-first mindset
• Nice to have: Experience creating comprehensive technical documentation
