Position Summary:

The purpose of this position is to lead small teams that include faculty subject matter experts (SMEs) and a course developer in the production of fully online and hybrid course design and development projects. Using best practices of instructional design, the incumbent works with SMEs on the design of course content, while supporting and assisting the course developer in the final production of course components. The incumbent keeps the course development project moving forward to completion on a schedule and is ultimately responsible for producing courses that meet Quality Matters-based design standards. With an understanding of the pedagogical needs related to teaching courses online, the incumbent also supports instructors through the initial delivery of the course.

Job Duties:

Leads small teams through online course design and development projects. Ensures that the process and the courses adhere to the best practices of instructional design and the appropriate use of online technology to support and enhance student learning. The incumbent ensures that courses meet accepted quality standards by aligning course content, assessments, and evaluations with learning objectives and course outcomes. ( 40% )

Supports and assists instructors and course developers in the production of course components, including the creation and implementation of elements that promote student engagement. ( 30% )

Works with instructors to understand online course delivery (teaching) needs and to be certain that instructors can use all applicable course delivery tools and techniques, particularly as these tools promote student engagement. ( 15% )

As part of the IDD team, completes all project- and administrative-based functions and duties as assigned. ( 15% )

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:

Master’s degree in Instructional Design or related field, or

Bachelor’s degree in Instructional Design and teaching experience.

Experience:

With Bachelor’s degree, two years of experience working as an instructional designer for online learning.

Prior teaching experience, including experience in curriculum design and development.

Prior work experience in online course production or teaching.

Prior experience creating and implementing educational media and technology.

Three years of experience working as an instructional designer for online learning is preferred.

Ability:

Demonstrates excellent English writing competencies, strong analytical skills, strong problem-solving skills, strong interpersonal skills, strong technical skills and aptitude, and project management skills.

Ability to use a variety of computer programs for course development, media development, web development, graphics, and project management.
