Summary

The Course Designer creates engaging, standards-aligned online learning experiences for K–12 Math and Science students (grades 6-12). This role combines instructional design, content development, and assessment expertise to ensure all materials meet academic, pedagogical, and accessibility standards.

Key Responsibilities: Design and develop online and blended courses using backward design, create assessments and learning activities aligned to K–12 standards, and conduct standards alignment and gap analyses. Edit content for quality, collaborate with subject-matter experts and media teams, use AI tools for content creation, and leverage performance data to continuously improve course materials.
Skills & Tools: Strong knowledge of K–12 standards, curriculum development, instructional design, assessment design, and accessibility standards (WCAG). Proficiency with AI-driven content tools, learning management systems, multimedia development, excellent communication and editing skills, and ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Education, Instructional Design, English, or related field (Master's preferred) with 2–3+ years of experience in curriculum development, instructional design, or educational publishing. Demonstrated experience with Science and Math curriculum for grades 6-12.

Position Summary:

This role combines instructional design, content development, assessment expertise, and editorial quality to ensure that all learning materials meet academic, pedagogical, and accessibility standards. Course Designers work cross-functionally to develop new courses and improve existing ones using backward design, performance data, and internal tools such as Course Builder, which leverages AI to support efficient content creation.

Primary duties and responsibilities:

  • Design and develop online and blended courses using backward design.
  • Create planning documents, content, formative and summative assessments, and learning activities aligned to K–12 standards.
  • Develop assessment strategies and instruments that measure standards mastery and support student success.
  • Conduct standards alignment, gap analyses, and crosswalks to support rigorous academic design.
  • Apply principles of instructional design, pedagogy, and accessibility to all course materials.
  • Collaborate with subject-matter experts, editors, media teams, and product teams.
  • Edit and review course content for accuracy, tone, clarity, inclusivity, and mechanical correctness.
  • Identify opportunities to enhance instruction with media and interactive components.
  • Use AI tools to support the creation of visuals such as infographics and other media assets.
  • Ensure compliance with internal style guides and accessibility (e.g., WCAG).
  • Use student performance data and feedback to revise and improve content.
  • Leverage internal tools such as Course Builder to efficiently develop and refine content using AI-assisted workflows.
  • Meet project deadlines while maintaining high quality standards

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Instructional Design, English, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
  • 2–3+ years of experience in curriculum development, instructional design, or educational publishing.
  • Experience with Science and Math for grade levels 6-12.
  • Strong knowledge of K–12 standards, assessment design, and alignment practices.
  • Proficiency in crafting valid, reliable assessments that align with learning objectives.
  • Excellent communication, editing, and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks, and adapt in a fast-paced environment.
  • Familiarity with AI-driven content and media development tools, and learning management systems.
  • Experience with multimedia, assessment evaluation, and accessibility standards is a plus.
