As Engineering Manager, you'll play a critical role in advancing Outschool Memberships and building innovative solutions that make alternative education (Alt-Ed) more accessible and engaging for families and learners everywhere.

As the Engineering Manager your contributions will directly impact our mission to inspire kids to love learning by making high-quality, interest-based education more discoverable, consumable, and engaging.

This role is the equivalent to a senior engineering manager position. At Outschool we have decided to take an unconventional approach to titling that aligns with our values and is focused on impact above status.
Core Responsibilities:
- Lead, mentor and grow a team of engineers responsible for building and innovating on Outschool's classroom and learning environment
- Oversee the design, development, and evolution of discovery, personalization, and classroom features, ensuring they are performant, user-centric, and aligned with our mission
- Collaborate closely with product, design, marketing, and data analytics to drive forward core initiatives that lower barriers to learning and encourage continuous educational engagement
- Partner with senior leadership to align on strategy, metrics and priorities
- Champion technical excellence and a culture of high ownership, providing mentorship, feedback, and support for the professional growth of engineers on your team
Desired Experience & Skills:
- 7-10+ years working of software engineering experience
- 5+ years of engineering management experience leading teams of 5-10 software engineers
- Experience managing and growing senior or staff ICs and leads
- Experience in performance management, including conducting reviews and providing feedback
- Demonstrated ability to oversee multiple parallel projects from planning to execution and on time delivery
- Data-driven mindset: experimentation, A/B testing, analytics, and metrics-informed decisionsStrong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make sound technical decisions
- Ability to align team goals with business objectives and contribute to strategic planning
- Experience in recruiting, hiring, and onboarding software engineers
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, both written and verbal
Other Considerations:
- Practical experience applying AI to improve learning experiences, content discovery, or personalization
Outschool is recruiting for this role in the SF Bay Area, and sets employee salaries to reflect local compensation and cost of living. Only candidates located in the SF Bay Area will be considered for this role. The salary range for this position would be $225,000 -$280,000 USD.
