Your impact

Handshake is hiring a Senior Software Engineer on the Employer Product and Growth team. In this role, you will directly contribute to the team’s mission of driving SMB employer growth and revenue generation through product innovation, acquisition, and continuous improvement. Your work will focus on building scalable systems and features that not only serve our customers but also expand Handshake’s business impact. You will lead large projects through all stages—from brainstorming and requirements, to design and experimentation, to execution and release.

About the Role

• Collaborate on a cross-functional team with designers, product managers, and other engineers, while also engaging with marketing, support, and analytics to ensure products align with business goals.
• Architect and build high-impact features that SMB employers rely on daily, with an emphasis on driving measurable growth and revenue outcomes.
• Lead by example in maintaining high quality standards in your own work and in peer feedback during code reviews and architecture discussions.
• Use both technical expertise and business acumen to influence the team’s roadmap, prioritizing product innovation alongside operational health initiatives like quality, reliability, and on-call.
• Mentor and unblock teammates to accelerate delivery and elevate the team’s overall effectiveness.
• Take ownership of significant projects, including initiatives that require collaboration across multiple engineers and stakeholders.

Desired Capabilities

• 6+ years of experience as a full stack engineer, confident in driving architectural decisions across both frontend and backend,
• Hands-on experience with ReactJS, Ruby, Ruby on Rails, SQL and PostgreSQL.
• Strong track record of building and shipping products that deliver business value and revenue impact in collaboration with product, design, and analytics partners.
• Experience leading large-scale projects from idea through to high-quality delivery.
• Skilled at balancing technical trade-offs with product and business priorities, demonstrating sound judgment and product sense.
• Empathetic mentor and teammate, proactive in giving and receiving feedback to drive growth.
• Excellent communicator, able to clearly explain technical decisions and business rationale to varied audiences.

Extra Credit

• Background in SMB SaaS products at scale, particularly in growth or monetization.
• Ownership mentality with a high degree of accountability for delivering outcomes that move both the product and business forward.
