Summary

Temporary Instructional Assistant role supporting Low Voltage Technician and IT Data Center Technician courses at Per Scholas in Atlanta. The position involves classroom support, student record management, and administrative tasks to facilitate training for entry and mid-level technicians.

Key Responsibilities: Assist lead instructor with classroom management, grading assessments, entering student grades into LMS systems, and maintaining student records and attendance. Monitor classroom functionality, manage inventory, prepare daily agendas, and support curriculum review and continuous improvement efforts.
Skills & Tools: Strong knowledge or interest in IT, software/hardware support, and network administration with excellent verbal and written communication skills. Experience in teaching or training is preferred, with ability to work in highly interactive, hands-on style.
Qualifications: CompTIA A+ and Net+ certifications required; ability to teach interactively, demonstrate passion for teaching, and flexibility to adapt to schedule changes. Must be able to frequently lift 50lbs and be team-oriented with teaching experience preferred.

Position Title: Instructional Assistant (Low Voltage/Data Center, Temporary role)

Duration: 5-6 months

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR:

We are currently seeking an Instructional Assistant in two different classes in a contract role to join our organization. The two classes are Low Voltage Technician and IT Data Center Technician. 

Per Scholas is seeking a dynamic, team-oriented individual to serve as an Instructor Assistant within the Atlanta Training Department. The Instructional Assistant (IA) will play an important role in our organization’s mission, as they train Per Scholas learners to be outstanding entry and mid-level technicians. They will be responsible for the following:

Overall Focus:

Candidates should be able to provide effective support in the classroom and be eager to grow their technical knowledge. In particular, they should be able to:

  • Assist the lead instructor both in and out of class in the teaching and administration of the class.
  • Display knowledge and/or interest in the following areas: information technology, software and hardware support, network administration, technology education

What You’ll Do:

Out-of-Class Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Assist and/or collaborate with the instructor to: 
  • Grade and/or review assessments, class projects, and other materials
  • Enter student grades into Learning Management Systems software and grading templates 
  • Update Salesforce data as necessary
  • Review curriculum materials and assessments weekly and report to the instructor and curriculum development team any proofreading or subject-matter errors
  • Assist instructor with the preparation of daily agenda for students 
  • Schedule time with the instructor and students to discuss class challenges
  • Monitor learner attendance, certifications’ progress, etc.
  • Manage learner common areas and tech supply inventory
  • Monitor kitchen area and manage kitchen supply inventory ie. coffee, water…etc.
  • Attend weekly team meetings and be prepared to provide classroom and learner updates. 

In-Class Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Monitor class as it is in progress - checking that overall functionality (audio, video, screen appearance, etc.) is working as needed
  • Serve as class timekeeper, monitor breaks and other scheduling information
  • Monitor students during test-taking and break-out group activities
  • Manage cleanliness of classroom and tech equipment
  • Note challenges presented during class, including (but not limited to) students who:
  • Seem disengaged or uninvolved with class activities
  • Are speaking more than other students (dominating) or are typically quiet

Professional Qualifications

  • CompTIA A+ Certification 
  • Net+ Certification
  • Ability to teach in a highly interactive and hands-on style
