Our mission is to empower trade and technical schools to offer the best payment options, enhancing enrollment and giving students access to life-changing education. We are obsessed with training the next generation of skilled tradespeople, supporting the career development of students in high-impact professions. We serve industries from healthcare and skilled construction to transportation, culinary arts, and cosmetology. Lumion is funded by top-tier venture firms, including but not limited to TTV Capital, Tusk Ventures.
As Lumion scales rapidly, we’re looking for a Director of FP&A to help build out our finance function and play a central role in driving business planning, financial modeling, and data-backed decision-making. If you thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment and want to make a real impact in SaaS, edtech, and fintech, we’d love to hear from you.
The Role
As Director of FP&A, you will be responsible for owning and maturing Lumion’s budgeting, forecasting, and strategic finance operations. Reporting directly to the Head of Operations, you will partner with cross-functional leaders across product, sales, operations, and customer success to provide financial insights and drive ROI-focused decision-making. This is a high-impact role that blends analytical horsepower with strong business intuition.
You should have a strong grounding in SaaS or tech-enabled services businesses, experience building driver-based financial models, and a track record of working effectively with both executive and operational stakeholders. This role is ideal for someone with 3–5 years of experience in FP&A, at a SaaS company who’s ready to step into a broader, more autonomous leadership role.
Role Responsibilities
Planning & Forecasting
- Lead and manage Lumion’s financial planning processes, including annual budget, quarterly re-forecasting, and long-range strategic planning.
- Own company-level and department-level financial models, ensuring accuracy, flexibility, and alignment with strategic goals.
- Partner with business leaders to track spend, forecast performance, and support resource allocation decisions.
Reporting & Analysis
- Deliver recurring and ad hoc financial reporting packages with insights that guide executive decision-making.
- Track key performance indicators (KPIs), develop dashboards, and synthesize metrics into actionable recommendations.
- Analyze unit economics, cohort trends, CAC/LTV dynamics, and product-level contribution margins.
Business Partnering
- Act as a strategic advisor to functional leads, helping them understand their financial levers and make data-informed decisions.
- Collaborate with Product and Ops teams to model new initiatives and evaluate investments.
- Provide financial support for fundraising, board presentations, and investor communications.
Audit & Compliance
- Lead the preparation and execution of annual financial audits, working closely with external auditors to ensure accurate, timely, and compliant reporting.
- Partner with accounting to ensure audit readiness and maintain organized, audit-traceable documentation and controls.
Systems & Process Improvement
- Help build FP&A infrastructure, including reporting tools and financial systems.
- Drive continuous improvement of planning and reporting processes to support scale.
Required Experience & Skills
- 3–5 years of experience in FP&A, SaaS, investment banking, private equity, management consulting, or a finance role within a high-growth startup.
- Strong financial modeling and Excel skills; ability to create dynamic, driver-based models from scratch.
- Deep understanding of SaaS metrics, revenue recognition, and cash flow forecasting.
- Experience supporting or managing the annual financial audit process in collaboration with external auditors.
- Startup mindset: bias for action, comfort with ambiguity, and a strong sense of ownership, and ability to build structure in a rapidly evolving environment.
- Proven ability to translate data into insights and influence stakeholders at all levels.
- Experience with tools like QuickBooks, or budgeting software is a plus.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Nice-to-Have
- Experience in edtech, fintech, or education-related SaaS.
- Familiarity with SQL, Looker, Sigma, or other BI tools.
- Exposure to board reporting or supporting fundraising processes.
