Summary

Kaplan seeks a remote Contractor Engineering Content Developer to create educational materials for PE examinations across various engineering disciplines. This flexible, contract-based role offers up to 20 hours per week with project-based assignments.

Key Responsibilities: Write and edit quiz questions and practice exam content for FE, PE Structural, and PE level examinations in civil, mechanical, electrical, structural, environmental, or chemical engineering. Perform quality assurance reviews, technical reviews, and contribute to study plans and customer feedback.
Skills & Tools: Excellent written and verbal English command, active PE certification from NCEES, exceptional attention to detail, and strong organizational and time management skills. Preferred experience includes tutoring, creating multiple-choice questions, and familiarity with educational content development tools.
Qualifications: Must have an active PE Certification issued by NCEES in the discipline of contribution and have taken the computer-based testing format of relevant exams. Preferred experience in tutoring, mentoring, or creating educational materials for engineering students.
Location: Remote, nationwide USA (based in Florida)
Compensation: $25 – $50/hour

Role

We are looking for a remote Subject Matter Expert who will assist Kaplan's engineering team in developing material to prepare students for the Principles of Practice of Engineering (PE) examination. This is a remote opportunity with flexible hours (up to 20 per week).

Responsibilities

The responsibilities of the Contractor may include: 

  • Writing quiz questions and practice exam questions in the style of NCEES examinations.
  • Writing or editing content in the disciplines of civil, mechanical, electrical, structural, environmental, or chemical engineering.
  • Writing for Fundamentals of Engineering (FE), PE Structural (SE), or Principles of Practice of Engineering (PE) level examinations.
  • Quality assurance reviews, technical reviews, and erratum correction.
  • Contributing to suggested study plans, and providing feedback on customer expectations for study and preparation.

Skill Requirements 

The candidate must: 

  • Have excellent command of the English language - both verbal and written.
  • Have taken the computer based testing (CBT) format of any exam they wish to contribute to.
  • Possess an active PE Certification issued by NCEES in the discipline they wish to contribute to.
  • Have exceptional attention to detail, organization skills, and time management skills
  • Provide prompt and responsive communication, mostly by email. Occasional video chat meetings during business hours may be required.
  • Be highly motivated and take initiative proactively.
  • Be receptive to feedback, meet deadlines, and take accountability for deliverables.

Preferred Skills

  • Have experience tutoring/mentoring/educating engineering students or colleagues.
  • Have experience creating multiple-choice questions, study materials, PowerPoint presentations or other similar content.

Hours & Employment

This is a contract (1099) position. Projects will be assigned via separate contracts with discrete schedules and deliverables. There is no set working schedule or hours other than project deadlines as assigned. 

Equipment Required

Contractors must supply their own equipment and must have installed:

  • Microsoft Word
  • Adobe Reader or Professional
  • MathType (available as a monthly subscription at contractor’s expense)

Pay is per project based on contractor availability and experience, typically equivalent to $25-$50 per hour.
