Reports To: Senior Manager of Student Career Success
The Technical Interview Coach will play a critical role in advancing CodePath’s mission by helping students and alumni prepare for technical interviews, focusing on software engineering, through the Career Center. The Career Center offers accessible career support through 1:1 mock interviews, workshops, and skill-building sessions to help students develop the technical skills and confidence needed to land technical roles and navigate their career paths.
This PT role (up to 20 hrs/wk) requires strong software engineering and technical interviewing experience, excellent communication skills, and a passion for supporting students—particularly those from underrepresented backgrounds—as they succeed in the technical hiring process.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct 1:1 mock technical interviews for students currently enrolled in CodePath’s courses and alumni preparing for technical interviews
- Co-present and lead technical interview preparation workshops and skill-building sessions
- Improve and iterate on technical interview preparation resources within the Career Kit
- Develop tailored content for technical interview prep and deliver it virtually as part of the Career Labs series
Expectations
- Continuously improve career coaching resources and student experiences by sharing knowledge and staying adaptable
- Communicate promptly via Slack and email, keeping the team updated on your availability and progress
- Maintain clarity and consistency in managing your calendar, time, and tasks
Experience & Skills Requirements
- 4+ years of experience as a software engineer (or closely related role) where you have been involved in the hiring process
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; comfortable with facilitating group workshops and 1:1 coaching sessions via Zoom
- Experience leading and providing feedback for various types of technical interviews, particularly data structures and algorithms
- Proficiency in at least one common programming language used in interviews (e.g., Python, Java, C++, JavaScript)
- Ability to facilitate mock interviews, present coding challenges, review code, and provide constructive feedback
- Strong time management skills
- Enthusiasm for mentoring and helping students build confidence in technical interviews
- Willingness to leverage and contribute to CodePath’s Technical Interview Prep curriculum
- Data-driven mindset, with an eagerness to use metrics for process improvement
- Flexibility and a willingness to experiment and learn
- Passion for CodePath’s mission to create the most diverse generation of engineers, CTOs, and founders
In an ideal world, you have...
- Experience with general career coaching or 1:1 mentoring for early career software developers, especially from communities underrepresented in tech
- Specific domain experience in one of the following areas (in cybersecurity, data science, machine learning, or engineering leadership)
- Familiarity with a range of technical interview formats, including coding assessments, whiteboard interviews, and system design
- Experience creating job search resources or documentation
- Prior remote work experience and familiarity with remote collaboration tools
- Strong professional network in the tech industry
