Summary

Lead creative strategy and storytelling efforts at MasterClass, directing a diverse team of copywriters, designers, video editors, art directors, and animators across class launches, campaigns, and product initiatives. Shape the brand's voice and visual identity to engage a global audience through compelling narratives across all marketing touchpoints.

Key Responsibilities: Define and champion creative vision for campaigns, products, and marketing communications while mentoring and developing creative team members. Provide creative direction and oversight across copy, art direction, design, video, and animation; collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop integrated strategies; and maintain on-brand, high-quality execution across all channels.
Skills & Tools: Exceptional storytelling and writing abilities with strategic thinking to translate business objectives into creative concepts; strong people management and mentoring skills to inspire and develop creative talent; and demonstrated expertise in directing multiple creative disciplines including art direction, design, video, and animation.
Qualifications: 10+ years of experience in creative roles producing standout work for global brands, with demonstrated expertise in conceptual and strategically-led campaign development. Proven experience leading creative teams across advertising, product, content, and creative strategy workstreams with a portfolio showcasing award-winning work.
Location: San Francisco, California, United States
Compensation: Not provided by employer. Typical compensation for this role is $180,000 – $250,000/year based on title, seniority, and location.

About the Role: 

As our Group Creative Director, you'll be reporting to our Executive Creative Director, and lead our copy and storytelling efforts, while also setting the bar to creatively lead a diverse team of copywriters, designers, video editors, art directors, and animators ranging from class launches, campaigns to product launches. Your passion for storytelling and strategic vision will shape how we communicate with our global audience. Whether through advertising campaigns, digital experiences, products, social content, or printed materials, you'll ensure our voice is fresh, authentic, engaging, and unmistakably MasterClass.

What You'll Do:

  • Lead and Inspire: Guide the creative vision and strategy for creative campaigns, products, and marketing communications. Inspire your team to push the boundaries of creativity and innovation.
  • Shape Our Voice: Write, define, and champion the tone and voice of marketing copy across various channels, ensuring consistency and authenticity. Delivering on-strategy, on-target, and on-brand messages and ensuring other writers are doing the same
  • Collaborate and Innovate: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including brand, performance marketing, enterprise, and product, to develop forward-thinking ideas and strategies.
  • Mentor and Grow: Develop and mentor a team of copywriters, designers, and art directors, fostering a culture of creativity, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Direct and Oversee: Provide creative direction and oversight across copy, art direction, design, video, animation, and other creative disciplines.
  • Execute with Excellence: Deliver compelling, on-brand messages across all touchpoints, maintaining the highest quality standards and attention to detail.
  • Adapt and Evolve: Stay ahead of industry trends and continuously seek new ways to tell our story in a rapidly changing landscape.

What We're Looking For:

  • Visionary Leader: Proven experience leading creative teams across advertising, product, content, and creative strategy workstreams.
  • Dynamite Storyteller: Exceptional writing skills with the ability to craft compelling narratives across various forms and mediums.
  • Empathetic Mentor: Strong people management skills with a track record of inspiring and developing creative talent.
  • Strategic Thinker: Ability to translate strategic objectives into creative concepts that resonate with our audience.
  • Collaborative Partner: Experience working closely with cross-functional teams to drive integrated marketing efforts, including Performance marketing.
  • Innovative Creator: A portfolio showcasing award-winning work and a knack for pushing creative boundaries.

Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of experience in creative roles, with a focus on producing standout work for global brands.
  • Experience directing copy, art direction, design, video, animation, and other creative disciplines.
  • Demonstrated expertise in conceptual and strategically-led campaign development.
  • Experience in both agency and in-house environments.
  • Ability to prioritize and work well under pressure while maintaining speed and high attention to detail given shifting timelines, updates, and last-minute changes. Should have a strong operational mindset and vision for the team.
  • Ability to provide and receive constructive feedback across creative disciplines.
  • Strong presentation skills and attention to detail; presenting work on behalf of the team, explaining the creative vision, strategy and approach.
  • Experience working with performance marketing and enterprise brands preferred.
  • Experience developing and maintaining brand voice and tone guidelines.
  • Understanding of performance marketing and its integration with creative strategy.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Versatility in writing styles and tones, from short-form brand advertising & performance copy to longer-form editorial content.
