Summary

Virtual Educational ASL Interpreter providing live interpretation services for Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing students in K–12 virtual classrooms across the United States. This role ensures equitable access to education through seamless communication between spoken English and ASL.

Key Responsibilities: Provide synchronous interpretation between spoken English and ASL for virtual instruction, IEPs, school events, and assemblies while collaborating with educators to optimize the remote learning experience. Manage technical setup, troubleshoot connections, maintain session records, and offer insights on student communication needs.
Skills & Tools: Fluent in both ASL and spoken English with strong proficiency in virtual platforms like Zoom and Teams, including technical troubleshooting. Deep understanding of Deaf/Hard-of-Hearing education, assistive technologies, ADA/IDEA compliance, and excellent collaborative communication abilities.
Qualifications: Must hold Missouri Restricted Certification in Education (RCED) for K–6 and/or 7–12 grades via the Missouri Interpreters Certification System (MICS). Requires demonstrated experience interpreting in K–12 environments including classrooms, IEPs, and school events, plus a clean background check.

We’re looking for an experienced ASL Interpreter who can bring clarity, equity, and connection into every virtual classroom. As a teletherapy-based interpreter, you’ll play a critical role in making sure Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing students have full, real-time access to learning—no matter where they are.

Whether it’s translating algebra lessons, IEP meetings, or school assemblies, you’ll be the link that ensures every voice is heard and every message lands. If you're certified in Missouri, fluent in ASL, and passionate about accessible education—we want to meet you.

What You’ll Do:

  • Provide live, synchronous interpretation (spoken English ↔ ASL) for virtual instruction, IEPs, school events, and more
  • Collaborate with educators to optimize the remote classroom experience for students who are Deaf/Hard-of-Hearing
  • Ensure seamless tech setup and secure connections—from lighting to lag, you’ve got it handled
  • Shadow students virtually to provide real-time, discreet access to instruction
  • Offer insights at IEP meetings and team huddles to support student communication needs
  • Keep clear records of your assignments, sessions, and accommodations provided
  • Be a champion for language access—whether it’s in a classroom, a parent meeting, or a school-wide event

What You Bring:

  • Restricted Certification in Education (RCED) for grades K–6 and/or 7–12 via the Missouri Interpreters Certification System (MICS)
  • Strong command of ASL and spoken English
  • Experience interpreting in K–12 environments—classrooms, assemblies, IEPs, and beyond
  • Comfortable with platforms like Zoom and Teams; solid tech troubleshooting chops
  • Deep understanding of DHH education, assistive technologies, and ADA/IDEA compliance
  • A collaborative spirit and top-notch communication skills
  • Clean background check (per district requirements)
