POSITION TITLE:Senior Director, Development (Southern Region)

LOCATION: Charlotte, North Carolina

NOTE: This position is hybrid and within proximity to one of the Per Scholas campuses in the Southern Region (Atlanta, Baltimore, Cincinnati, Columbus, Indianapolis, National Capital Region, North Carolina, Orlando).

REPORTS TO: Senior Vice President, Development - Regional

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR:

Per Scholas is seeking a Senior Director, Development (Southern Region) to become a member of the national development team. You will hold key responsibilities in team leadership, funder relations, corporate engagement, and organizational storytelling for a diverse national funding portfolio. The Senior Director, Development will motivate and coach the Southern Region Development Team -and in turn the larger team- to achieve robust annual growth through strategic prospect cultivation, cross-market collaboration, high-quality proposal development, accurate and compelling reporting, and stewardship. Directly responsible for fundraising across Atlanta, Baltimore, Cincinnati, Columbus, Indianapolis, National Capital Region, North Carolina, and Orlando markets (with the potential for additional campuses to be added), towards a $6.8M+ revenue target in 2025 and year-over-year growth of at least 15%. 

This includes managing a team of fundraisers responsible for leading and implementing fundraising activities in these markets. This role is part of a dynamic team of development professionals and will work closely with the Regional SVP and Managing Directors as well as the National Leadership team to meet our revenue targets and grow our programs throughout the region.

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

Fundraising Leadership

  • Oversee the development of local fundraising strategies across Southern Region markets in partnership with regional and local development leads, Managing Directors, and Regional programmatic leadership. 
  • Ensure that all Southern Region fundraisers are capturing notes and activities in Salesforce, and support organizational improvements in CRM management. 
  • Oversee the development of Southern Region local fundraising and revenue projections in the annual budget process. Partner with development operations to ensure that projections are updated throughout the year, and all grants, reports, and key documents are recorded in Salesforce. 
  • Support the preparation of accurate and compelling collateral to support donor cultivation in the Southern Region including, but not limited to: slide decks; one-pagers; letters of interest; grant proposals; reports; and other materials that are responsive to donor guidelines, including assembling required documentation and budgets.
  • Review and edit the work of other staff members, including local and regional Development leads, consultants, and communications staff, to accurately reflect Per Scholas’ impact and growth strategy
  • Collaborate with the marketing and communications team to drive local publicity for grants, fundraising events and key partnerships in the Southern Region.

Portfolio Leadership and Relationship Management

  • Lead fundraising efforts in North Carolina, with potential for additional campuses to be added to portfolio, with the support of local Managing Directors and the Grant Writer (Southern Region)
  • Attend and prepare for key funder meetings and site visits as a representative and ambassador of Per Scholas
  • Research market trends and conduct data analysis to support proposals, inform policy briefs and keep the team aware of evolving opportunities

Personnel Management

Provide direct supervision, coaching and training for fundraisers overseeing other Southern Region markets, including a Director of Development (Baltimore/National Capital Region), a Senior Manager, Development (Atlanta/ Orlando), Senior Manager, Development (Cincinnati/Indianapolis ), and Grant Writer (Southern Region)

  • Create and implement robust on-boarding plans, supporting regional leaders in coaching new fundraisers to rapid success. 
  • Review and edit the work of other staff members, including Senior Managers, Managers, and Associates, as well as consultants and communications staff, to accurately reflect Per Scholas’ impact and growth strategy

WHAT YOU’LL BRING TO US:

Professional Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree (or equivalent practical experience) required 
  • 7-10 years of relevant development experience
  • Demonstrated skills in management with an eye toward coaching, developing, and empowering staff
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and copy editing skills
  • Excellent verbal communication skills, both in person and on phone
  • Proven research abilities, including gathering and interpreting data; funder prospecting experience desirable
  • Experience with Microsoft Office, Salesforce and Google Apps for Business (Docs, Drive, Gmail, Calendar, Chat, etc.) 
  • Availability to travel 10-15% 
  • Capacity to attend key external meetings as the organizational representative

For this role specifically, we are targeting a salary range of $120,000 to $130,000 where the difference in salary is typically determined by several factors, including geography in which the selected candidate resides, and alignment with qualifications and experience.
