Summary

IT Manager overseeing a software product development team at Nelnet Business Services, responsible for coaching direct reports, aligning team objectives with organizational goals, and supporting technology strategy within the Grant & Aid product ecosystem.

Key Responsibilities: Coaches and develops direct reports, manages performance evaluations and compensation recommendations, leads hiring processes, and implements lean solutions to improve team efficiency while maintaining quality. Translates technical details into business language and builds collaborative relationships with IT, Product, and Operations leaders.
Skills & Tools: Strong leadership and mentoring abilities, technical knowledge of .Net, Angular/TypeScript, and MySQL development stacks, understanding of microservice architectures and CI/CD pipelines, and skilled communication abilities to explain complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Qualifications: Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required, plus 3+ years leading a software product development team with technical or managerial experience in modern web development tech stacks. Experience mentoring others and driving significant change within teams is essential.
Location: Remote from Nebraska, United States
Compensation: Not provided by employer. Typical compensation for this role is $105,000 – $145,000/year based on title, seniority, and location.

The Manger of IT accomplishes departmental and organizational objectives through others, including activities related to performance management and human resources. This position must use company core values to guide decisions and behaviors in order to elevate culture within their team and across the organization. In addition, the Manager of IT should support technology and product strategy within their team(s) and business through collaborative and educational efforts.

The Grant & Aid product, part of the FACTS ecosystem, supports private, faith-based schools and scholarship organizations. Through our software-as-a-service platform, we handle the processes of grant application, verification, awarding, and reporting for scholarship offices.

Job Responsibilities:

1.   Coaches, motivates, and professionally develops direct reports.

2.   Builds strong relationships with IT, Product, and Operations’ leaders to seek feedback for continuous improvement.

3.   Translates technical detail into business relevant language.

4.   Sets clear team objectives and measurements aligned with organizational goals.

5.   Responsible for performance evaluations and recommending compensation changes.

6.   Promotes teamwork and cooperation within and across teams.

7.   Implements lean solutions to improve team efficiency while maintaining effectiveness.

8.   Assesses and improves team health.

9.   Creates a culture that makes room for failure and learning.

10.   Leads the hiring process for team members.

11.   Contributes to department staffing plans and budget processes.

EDUCATION: 

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.

EXPERIENCE:

  • 3 + years leading a Software Product Development Team.
  • Technical or managerial experience with a .Net and Angular/typescript and MySQL project, or a modern web development tech stack.
  • Understanding of micro-service architectures and CI/CD.

  • Familiarity with Agile principles and experience working in a Scrum environment.
  • Have worked in a remote or hybrid setting or have experience leading a team in a remote environment.


Pay range for this role is $115,000-$125,000 annually depending on experience.
