Summary

OCLC seeks a Senior Data Engineer to join their Analytics team, designing and optimizing high-scale data solutions and ETL pipelines that connect libraries and make knowledge accessible worldwide.

Key Responsibilities: Architect and support end-to-end ETL pipelines using Informatica PowerCenter to ingest, transform, and curate data from internal systems and SaaS platforms into enterprise data warehouses and analytics platforms. Collaborate with stakeholders to translate business requirements into reliable, performant analytics assets while serving as a data modeling expert and key contributor to DataOps and Data Quality programs.
Skills & Tools: Required expertise includes data modeling, proficiency in Python, Java, or Scala, and experience with large-scale data warehouses and ETL tools. Strong ability to embrace AI as a tool for speed and execution, with demonstrated project leadership and collaborative problem-solving capabilities.
Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field with 4-6 years of experience in data-related roles. Proven track record of project leadership and technical contributions in enterprise data engineering environments.
Location: Hybrid in Dublin, United States of America (3 days on-site per week with occasional additional days as needed)

The Job Details are as follows:

We’re seeking a seasoned Senior Data Engineer to join our Analytics team and drive the design, development, and optimization of high scale data solutions. In this role, you’ll architect and support end to end ETL pipelines—leveraging Informatica PowerCenter—to ingest, transform, and curate data from internal systems and SaaS platforms into our enterprise data warehouse, data lake, data marts, and other downstream analytics platforms. You’ll serve as both the data modeling expert and a key contributor to our DataOps and Data Quality programs, partnering with stakeholders to translate business requirements into reliable, performant analytics assets. We need engineers that that embrace AI as a tool to move us with speed and execution in our ETL space. Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with team members to collect business requirements, define successful analytics outcomes, and design data models
  • Design, develop, and maintain ETL workflows using Informatica PowerCenter, ensuring reliable, performant pipelines from internal databases and SaaS applications
  • Write performant code that meets our internal standards for style, maintainability, and best practices for a high-scale data environment. Maintain and advocate for these standards through code review.
  • Serve as the Data Model subject matter expert and data model spokesperson, demonstrated by the ability to address questions quickly and accurately
  • Provide data modeling expertise to other OCLC teams and departments through code reviews, pairing, and training to help deliver optimal, DRY, and scalable database designs and queries
  • Ship medium to large features independently
  • Subject Matter Expert for sections of the Enterprise Metadata Platform, a scalable resource to support Self-Service and Single-source-of-truth analytics
  • Advocate for the Data Quality Program and Trusted Data Development process to help ensure all data is profiled, reviewed, and accurate to support critical decisions
  • Implement the DataOps philosophy in everything you do
  • Understand and implement data engineering best practices
  • Improve, manage, and teach standards for code maintainability and performance in code submitted and reviewed
  • Create smaller merge requests and issues by collaborating with stakeholders to reduce scope and focus on iteration
  • Generate architecture recommendations and the ability to implement them
  • Perform technical interviews
  • Organize and plan development initiatives
  • Implement new data engineering and analytics methodologies with minimal guidance and support from other team members
  • Regularly participate in the Data Community/Industry outside of OCLC through writing, speaking, and/or networking

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a Computer Science related discipline required and skills usually represented by 4-6 years of software development or project management experience
  • 4+ years in the Data space as an analyst, engineer, or equivalent
  • 4+ years working with a large-scale (1B+ Rows) Data Warehouse, preferably in a cloud environment
  • 2+ years managing the same data model system over time, evolving the model to meet new business requirements
  • Extensive experience in 2 or more major data subject areas (finance, product, etc.)
  • Professional experience using Python, Java, or Scala for data processing (Python preferred)
  • Demonstrated experience leading 4 or more analytics projects from beginning to operationalization
  • Demonstrated experience designing and socializing Entity Relationship Diagrams and reference SQL scripts to scale data acumen and adoption
  • Experience working with multiple commercial data warehouses, ETL tools, and data visualization tools
  • Familiarity with unit testing, integration testing and performance/stress testing
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills: regularly achieve consensus amongst technical and business teams

Working Conditions: Normal office environment. Hybrid position requires three days in office.
