The University of Maine System (UMS) is seeking a Senior Data Integration Architect —an active and proven Boomi expert —to lead the platform’s strategic and technical direction. This senior-level role offers the opportunity to shape how UMS manages, integrates, and leverages enterprise data across its statewide campuses.

As the Senior Data Integration Architect, you will help define the future of higher education technology by architecting seamless and scalable data solutions that support academic, financial, and operational excellence. You will join a collaborative IT environment that values innovation, knowledge sharing, and professional growth while delivering meaningful work that serves thousands of students, faculty, and staff.

This full-time position is remote, with a standard work schedule of Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. EST. Occasional evening or weekend work may be required.

What You'll Do

  • Serve as UMS's primary technical expert and architect for the Boomi integration platform.
  • Lead the design and implementation of enterprise-wide integration solutions that enable secure, reliable data exchange across critical university systems.
  • Establish and enforce development standards, reusable integration patterns, and best practices. 
  • Mentor and upskill IT colleagues by delivering Boomi training, technical documentation, and hands-on coaching.
  • Evaluate and optimize platform performance and integration architecture for scalability, security, and maintainability. 
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver robust, high-impact integration solutions that align with UMS's strategic and operational goals. 
  • Contribute to project planning, resource estimation, and change management for complex integration initiatives.

About The Department

Enterprise Services is one of four strategic divisions within the UMS IT organization, working alongside Infrastructure, Information Security, and Campus Technology Services. Within this division, the Web and Data Services team leads the way on integration, web development, business intelligence, and data warehousing efforts across the university system

This position is embedded in our Data Integration Group , which plays a critical role in connecting systems such as PeopleSoft , Salesforce , and Oracle Cloud through modern data architecture and enterprise integration platforms.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a closely related field, or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 8 or more years of experience in integration architecture and development, with progressive technical responsibility.
  • 5 or more years of hands-on experience with enterprise integration platforms, with extensive expertise in Boomi, including development, platform administration, and performance optimization.
  • Proven experience leading complex integration projects involving multiple enterprise systems (e.g., Salesforce, PeopleSoft, Oracle Cloud).
  • Active Boomi certification or equivalent certification in a recognized enterprise integration platform. 
  • Deep knowledge of integration architecture and patterns, modern API design (REST, SOAP, GraphQL), and middleware technologies.
  • Strong skills in mentorship, technical training, and documentation to build organizational learning. 
  • Demonstrated success in designing scalable, maintainable, and reliable integration solutions. 
  • Excellent analytical and communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
