Summary

Nelnet is seeking a Data Analyst I to support data development, analysis, and reporting that drives business objectives and operational efficiencies. This remote position leverages SQL and data tools to provide strategic insights and recommendations to customers.

Key Responsibilities: Mine and analyze complex datasets to identify trends and correlations, then provide data-driven recommendations for improving systems and processes. Develop reports and dashboards, present findings to stakeholders, and automate manual tasks to enhance operational value.
Skills & Tools: Required skills include proficiency in SQL, data manipulation, Excel, Power BI, strong analytical abilities, and excellent communication. Preferred skills include Python, R, Snowflake, and familiarity with T-SQL and PostgreSQL.
Qualifications: A 4-year college degree in a related field is preferred, or equivalent experience. A minimum of 1 year of data analytics experience with proven SQL and SQL ETL expertise is required.

The Data Analyst I assists in developing, preparing, analyzing and loading data into the database/data warehouse while preserving data integrity. With innovative-driven projects, this position will help in developing new processes, reports, and best practices in order to drive business objectives, increase revenue and operational efficiencies.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Utilize skillset to mine and pull complex datasets.
  • Interpret data and analyze for trends, correlations, and other key characteristics.
  • Provide strategic and defensible recommendations for improving systems, processes, and strategies based upon findings supported by research and data analysis.
  • Compile, package, present and discuss analysis and insights with customers in an impactful narrative or visual form.
  • Develop reports and dashboards to communicate performance and deliver insight to customers while monitoring data quality issues.
  • Continuously seek out opportunities to add value through process automation and programmatic solutions to manual tasks.
  • Address customer needs proactively and support the NBS Management Team as the primary customer.

Salary range for this role is: $55,000-$65,000

EDUCATION:

4-year college degree in related field (preferred) or equivalent experience. 

EXPERIENCE:

  • 1 year of data analytics experience with a proven track record of experience aligning with job responsibilities listed above (examples or published work preferred).
  • Experience with data access and structuring tools/languages - SQL & SQL ETL experience required; Snowflake, R, or Python preferred
  • Experience with Excel Query and PowerBI may be preferred.
  • Analytical abilities to compile, structure, examine, and present substantial data sets with precision and thoroughness.
  • Capable of critically evaluating data to derive meaningful, actionable insights.

COMPETENCIES – SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES:

  • Competency with extracting, manipulating, querying data in a variety of database systems - programming: Microsoft T-SQL, PostgreSQL.
  • Familiarity with data access and structuring tools (Aginity for Netezza/AWS, Python, SQL Server Analytics Services, SQL Server Management Studio).
  • Familiarity with reporting and dashboarding software (e.g., Microsoft Power BI, DAX.
  • Expertise with Microsoft Excel, including formulas, charts, and Pivot Tables.
  • Familiarity with scripting languages: Python for data manipulation and process automation.
  • Familiarity with data mapping, cleansing, and editing as well as Extract, Transform, and Load processes (ETL) using Python and Visual Studio.
  • Exceptional critical thinking and problem-solving skills. 
  • Ability to conceptualize and analyze complex business processes.
  • Excellent oral/written and interpersonal communication skills. 
  • Negotiation, facilitation, and presentation skills. 
  • Ability to define and achieve business goals and deadlines while working both independently & collaboratively.
