Summary

Senior Editor at The Lancet responsible for managing high-quality health science research submissions and editorial communications. The role involves peer reviews, content promotion, and collaboration with specialty journals to advance scientific publishing in North America.

Key Responsibilities: Conduct peer reviews, manage editorial communications, evaluate papers for clinical impact, and liaise with Lancet specialty journals to promote content and special projects. Contribute to commissioning of Comments, Perspectives, Seminars, Reviews, and various Series while managing preprints in partnership with SSRN.
Skills & Tools: Critical thinking about scientific and health-related issues, exceptional oral and written communication skills, and ability to distill complex concepts. Strong organizational and time management capabilities with talent for engaging diverse scientific, clinical, and public health communities.
Qualifications: Ph.D. or M.D. in a relevant health field required. Must demonstrate ability to work collaboratively in diverse team settings with excellent communication and organizational skills.
Location: Hybrid in New York, New York, United States (office attendance 1-2 times per month)
Compensation: $80,800 – $134,700/year

About the Role

You will be a Senior Editor with The Lancet family of journals in North America. Working closely with the North American Executive Editor. The Senior Editor role is a hybrid based out of the New York office.

Responsibilities

  • Liaising with the Lancet specialty journals to help communicate content and promoting special projects in the US.
  • Conducting peer reviews, clinical trials and acquisitions, negotiate revisions.
  • Evaluating papers, team presentations, peer reviews for those with the highest potential clinical impact and participate in team decision making.
  • Promoting special projects (e.g., Series, Commissions, etc.) in the US. In addition, to managing the Preprints with The Lancet in partnership with the SSRN team.
  • Contributing to the commissioning of Comments, Perspectives, Seminars, Reviews, and Clinical, Global Health, and other Series and Commissions.
  • Reviewing editorial writing and outreach and working with other Lancet branded programs.

Requirements

  • Have a PH.D in an area relevant to health or an M.D.
  • Able to think critically about a wide range of scientific and health-related issues.
  • Display exceptional oral and written communication skills.
  • Have interest in engaging with the scientific, clinical health and public health communities.
  • Have talent for distilling complex concepts and communicating them.
  • Able to work well in diverse team settings.
  • Have excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Able to work in office 1-2 times per month.

The salary range provided in this posting is the base salary range for NYC:$80,800.00 - $134,700.00
