Summary

Strategic Education Inc. is seeking Finance Interns for a summer internship program in Minneapolis to gain hands-on experience in financial planning, accounting, and internal audit within a corporate finance function of a publicly traded higher education company.

Key Responsibilities: Interns will prepare journal entries, assist with audit planning and execution, analyze financial data, support budgeting processes, and prepare accounting reports. Responsibilities vary by track (Accounting, Internal Audit, or FP&A) and may include account reconciliations, internal control testing, financial modeling, and documentation of findings.
Skills & Tools: Required skills include strong analytical abilities, Excel proficiency, financial reporting knowledge (GAAP, financial statements), attention to detail, clear communication, problem-solving, teamwork, adaptability, time management, and ethical judgment.
Qualifications: Candidates must be current undergraduate students pursuing a degree in Accounting, Finance, or related fields, preferably with expected graduation in Spring 2026. Applicants must reside in or near the Minneapolis, MN area.

Finance Intern: Financial Planning and Analysis, Accounting, Internal Audit, Procurement

Strategic Education Inc. is looking for a group of dynamic students to join our summer internship program to get hands-on experience, skills development, networking, and mentorship with a corporate finance function supporting an innovative publicly traded higher education company.

Responsibilities

Accounting Intern:

  • The Accounting Intern practices their accounting knowledge and skills in a professional setting.
  • Responsibilities may include:
  • Prepare journal entries and account reconciliations.
  • Prepare accounting reports for management.
  • Support internal controls documentation and compliance.

Internal Audit Interns:

  • The Internal Audit Intern assists the internal audit team in evaluating and improving the organization’s processes, controls, and risk management.
  • Responsibilities may include:
  • Assist with audit planning and execution.
  • Review financial records and operational procedures.
  • Perform testing of internal controls and systems reviews.
  • Document findings and recommendations.

Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A) Intern:

  • The FP&A Intern supports financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and analysis.
  • Responsibilities may include:
  • Assist in preparing financial models and forecasts.
  • Analyze financial data to provide insights.
  • Support budgeting processes.

Other functions and duties as assigned.

Education

  • Current undergraduate college student pursuing a degree in Accounting, Finance, or related degree, preferably with an expected graduation in Spring 2026.

Skills Required

  • Analytical Skills - ability to dissect financial data, identify trends, interpret complex information, and make informed decisions.
  • Financial Reporting - understand financial statements (balance sheets, income statements, cash flow statements) and is comfortable with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles).
  • Attention to Detail - focus on detail when analyzing data, preparing reports, or reconciling accounts.
  • Communication Skills - clearly write and verbally communicate to explain financial concepts, present findings, and collaborate with colleagues.
  • Problem-Solving - think critically and propose effective solutions when encountering complex challenges.
  • Excel Proficiency - skilled in manipulating data, creating pivot tables, using formulas and functions, and building financial models.
  • Teamwork and Collaboration - works well with others, contribute to team goals, and communicate effectively.
  • Adaptability - is open to change and willing to learn new tools, software, and industry trends.
  • Time Management - ability to juggle multiple tasks, priorities, and deadlines.
  • Ethical Judgment - shows integrity and ethical judgment when handling sensitive information.
