You’ve led high-performing teams, managed complex HR functions, and driven change across growing organizations. With a strong foundation in people strategy, employee engagement, and organizational development, you balance vision with execution, equity with compliance, and empathy with accountability. You excel at coaching others, navigating complex employee issues, and building inclusive, high-trust cultures. About the Position
Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the Senior Director of People Experience sets and leads the strategic direction of StriveTogether’s people and culture efforts. This role ensures that the organization attracts, retains, and supports a diverse, mission-aligned, and high-performing team. The Senior Director brings to life StriveTogether’s people strategy through effective management, staff engagement, policy leadership, and execution across the employee lifecycle. A trusted partner to the executive team and a champion for staff experience, the Senior Director plays a key role in shaping the organization’s culture and long-term success. The Senior Director of PX is a member of the Organizational Leadership Team, and as such supports driving organizational priorities and executing strategy.
Responsibilities and Duties
Strategic Leadership (30%)
- With the COO, set and drive StriveTogether’s people strategy, including talent strategy and workforce planning, staff value proposition and employee experience, organizational engagement initiatives, as well as serving as the primary ambassador for the organization’s people strategy internally and externally.
- Partner with the executive team to align people’s initiatives with organizational priorities and goals.
- Advise on and drive organizational strategies around career pathways, professional development, competencies, succession planning, and leadership development.
Organizational Policy and Change Leadership (15%)
- Lead complex organizational change initiatives and ensure people’s policies and practices evolve with organizational needs.
- Design and implement effective people-related policies, ensuring alignment with StriveTogether’s mission, values, and legal standards.
People Operations & HR Leadership (15%)
- Support the COO’s efforts to build and sustain an inclusive, equitable workplace culture.
- Champion a positive and inclusive staff experience across all levels of the organization.
- Bring staff voice and needs into leadership and cross-functional discussions and decisions.
- Build a trusting relationship with the staff to ensure staff feel able to bring people issues to the PX team in a timely and confidential manner.
Employee Experience & Engagement (20%)
- Oversee compensation and total rewards strategy, ensuring competitiveness, equity, and sustainability.
- Lead high-level employee relations and performance management issues with care, confidentiality, and legal compliance.
- Serve as a strategic business partner on all people-related matters, including staffing models, team structure, and leadership transitions.
- Manage people function budget and planning.
Team Management Responsibilities (15%)
- Build and strengthen a high-performing, collaborative People team capable of scaling with organizational growth.
- Directly supervise the PX team providing coaching, professional development, and accountability.
- Provide leadership and guidance to team members, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
- Set clear performance expectations and provide ongoing coaching, feedback and development opportunities.
- Foster a positive work environment that promotes collaboration, engagement and professional growth.
- Manage team workload and priorities to ensure efficiency and high-quality outcomes.
- Resolve conflicts and address performance issues in a fair and constructive manner.
Organizational Responsibilities (5%)
- Adhere to company policies and procedures.
- Participate in staff meetings, organizational training, cross-functional teams and interview processes.
Qualifications and skills
Required Qualifications
- Experience in people strategy, HR leadership or organizational development with prior leadership and management responsibilities
- Demonstrated success in aligning people strategy with organizational vision and values
- Deep experience in organizational change management, employee engagement, and leadership development
- Strong command of compensation strategy, HR compliance, and complex employee relations
- Exceptional interpersonal, communication, and facilitation skills
- Experience managing and developing high-performing teams
- Alignment with StriveTogether’s mission and commitment to equity and systems change
Preferred Qualifications
- 10 years of relevant experience with at least 3 years in a leadership role
- Prior non-profit experience, particularly in mission-aligned organizations
- Experience in scaling and growing organizations
- Experience with relevant tools and systems including ADP, Asana, and Salesforce or similar stems
Location and Work Requirements
This role has the opportunity to be fully remote or based out of StriveTogether’s downtown Cincinnati headquarters.
- Cincinnati employees have a hybrid work schedule and come into the office three times per week, with days chosen based on the needs of the role and team member preferences. The dog-friendly office features company-paid parking, a rooftop deck, and snacks and beverages.
- Fully remote team members have access to DeskPass for community desk and meeting room options.
- Ability to effectively use remote work technology, including Slack, Zoom and other technology
- Approximately 25% travel anticipated
Compensation and Benefits
The anticipated salary range for this role is $140,000 - $160,000. The salary range accounts for Cincinnati-similar geographic regions and may be adjusted based on the cost of labor of the geographic market.
StriveTogether is committed to fair compensation practices. To ensure consistency, salaries are determined based on the readiness for the position, market competitiveness and fair pay structures across the team. As a result, StriveTogether does not engage in salary negotiations.
StriveTogether also provides competitive benefits and professional development opportunities including:
- 15 days paid off with an additional four personal days, eleven holidays and a five-day break at the end of the year. PTO increases to twenty days after five years and staff members can apply for sabbatical in their seventh year of employment.
