Summary

Join Grammarly's Core Experience team as a macOS Software Engineer to develop innovative UI and integrate core writing assistance features directly into macOS applications. This role focuses on building a robust, high-performance product that delivers the Grammarly experience across multiple apps using Swift and modern Apple frameworks.

Key Responsibilities: Contribute to macOS product architecture, innovate on feature delivery, and build complex UI solutions while ensuring high performance with attention to algorithms and data structures. Develop shared components for Grammarly products on Apple platforms and optimize for minimal latency when working with complex documents.
Skills & Tools: Strong proficiency in Swift, object-oriented design, multithreading (GCD), and performance/memory tuning tools; expertise in creating delightful user experiences with complex UI elements using AppKit and CoreGraphics. Requires solid software engineering fundamentals, knowledge of Mac internals, privacy-conscious development practices, and alignment with Grammarly's EAGER and MOVE values.
Qualifications: Experience developing desktop applications for macOS with deep knowledge of Swift, OOP, and multithreading; proven ability to optimize performance and memory with hands-on tools. Background in handling uncertainty, working in fast-paced environments with consistent feedback loops, and demonstrating ethical, adaptable, gritty, empathetic, and remarkable qualities.

The Opportunity

To achieve our ambitious goals, we’re looking for a macOS Software Engineer to join our Core Experience team. This role will help build a new product that will integrate directly with the macOS operating system and provide the Grammarly experience in many apps where users communicate. This person will engage in building delightful UI and integrating core Grammarly features from scratch. We use Swift, AppKit, and CoreGraphics in our work while employing the best engineering practices and improving our development approach in general.

As a Software Engineer, macOS you will:

  • Contribute to creating the foundation of a robust and well-thought-out architecture.
  • Innovate to break through technical limitations and deliver delightful features.
  • Build non-trivial UX solutions with complex UI elements.
  • Achieve minimum latency while working with complex documents.
  • Ensure the product is performant by applying your knowledge of algorithms and data structures.
  • Develop shared components used in different Grammarly products built for Apple platforms.
  • Use Swift, AppKit, and CoreGraphics in your work while employing best engineering practices.

Grammarly takes a market-based approach to compensation, which means base pay may vary depending on your location. Our US locations are categorized into two compensation zones based on proximity to our hub locations. In Canada, all locations where we support employment are considered “Zone 1”. 

Base pay may vary considerably depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The expected salary ranges for this position are outlined below by compensation zone and may be modified in the future.

Zone 1: $180,000 – $248,000/ year (USD)
