Key Responsibilities: Manage and grow a team of Data Scientists, AI engineers, and ML engineers while collaborating with Health Markets technology groups to guide product development. Implement data science governance, design AI systems, establish data asset strategies, and lead cross-functional innovation initiatives.
Skills & Tools: Leadership in data science with expertise in AI/ML, natural language processing, generative AI, and advanced analytics methodologies. Strong ability to work independently, engage cross-functionally with business stakeholders, and serve as a technical SME with knowledge of MLOps, RAG systems, and Responsible AI practices.
Qualifications: Proven track record of leading Data Scientists and driving innovation delivery in applied data science or AI/ML within tech companies, preferably healthcare tech. Extensive experience with AI/GenAI technologies and demonstrated ability to implement governance and best practices at scale.
Location: Hybrid in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States (Penn Center)
Compensation: $130,000 – $200,000/year

About the role, This Senior Manager position will work with their team to define and execute projects to develop and execute on best practices. You should be a methodological expert to enhance products and services developed and supported by the team. Your team of Data Scientists should function as change agents to insert best practices into workflows. We are not looking for an individual contributor in this role.

About the team, this team of Data Scientists is entrusted with driving innovation within our Health Markets business vertical. Through the utilization of LLM and AI, this team is further positioning Elsevier as a leader as we continue to deliver cutting edge products to market.

Responsibilities

  • Working collaboratively with Health Markets technology groups (engineering, TIO & architecture) to guide and support HM product development.
  • Managing and growing a team of Data Scientists, AI engineers, and ML engineers in HM Technology, including hiring and managing contractors as needed 
  • Working closely with stakeholders to understand the user problem and closely with architecture and the technical team to design the solution.
  •  Working collaboratively with other Data Science leaders to prioritize and resource projects in HM and contribute to cross-Elsevier best practices.  
  • Collaborating with Architecture and Data Engineering on the design of AI systems with an emphasis on reusability 
  • Implementing and support DS best practices including data science governance, Responsible AI policies, and anti-bias initiatives 
  • Maintaining a current roadmap of current HM projects and lead governance & prioritization meetings with the HM businesses in collaboration with other HM data science orgs 
  • Owning and driving the implementation of Automated Assessment of GenAI systems (LLM-as-a-judge, goldset comparison, etc) 
  • Defining and implement data asset strategy (metadata standards, data set registry, etc) to enable monetization of analytics in partnership with the business 
  • Leading a cross-functional group including product, commercial, sales, strategy to establish and refine a pipeline of innovation bets 

Qualifications 

  • Current leadership of Data Scientists and ideally cross functional technologists.
  • Proven track record of driving innovation and delivering products.
  • Current and extensive experience in applied data science or AI/ML in a tech company, preferably in healthcare tech 
  • Through understanding of the utilization of AI/GenAI and its impact in Health Markets
  • Expertise in a relevant field such as natural language processing, information retrieval, or generative AI and serve as a technical SME for their team.
  • Expertise with advanced analytics methodologies, AI/ML and predictive modeling, MLOps, generative AI, and RAG systems 
  • Proven track record of being able to work independently and proactively engage with business stakeholders in collaborative, cross-functional initiatives
