Summary

Literacy Specialist (per diem) responsible for delivering professional learning and coaching to district partners on balanced literacy, guided reading, and writing instruction. Role supports teachers in building content knowledge and implementing best practices in literacy instruction.

Key Responsibilities: Facilitate professional learning sessions using adult learning methodologies, deliver coaching to classroom teachers and coaches on balanced literacy practices and guided reading, provide feedback during coaching cycles, and maintain expertise in literacy instruction and Scholastic products.
Skills & Tools: Expertise in balanced literacy, guided reading, literacy stations, and 6+1 traits of writing; strong facilitation and adult learning methodology skills; proficiency in Microsoft Office and PowerPoint; excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication abilities; and knowledge of change management and adult learning theories.
Qualifications: Master's degree (or progress toward one) in education or reading-related field with minimum 3-5 years of face-to-face professional learning facilitation experience in literacy and 3-5 years of teaching experience. Must have valid driver's license, ability to maintain travel schedule, and knowledge of college and career readiness standards.
Location: NY5 - New York, United States of America; no specific office location indicated (remote or flexible arrangement likely given per diem status).
Compensation: Estimated: $45,000 – $65,000/year based on per diem part-time specialist role with Master's degree requirement, 6-10 years combined experience, and New York location. Actual compensation structure likely hourly or daily rate given per diem designation.

THE OPPORTUNITY

Our Education Division is seeking to hire an energetic part-time Literacy Specialist (per diem) with deep knowledge and experience with balanced literacy, guided reading, literacy stations, and the 6+1 traits of writing. The primary role of the Literacy Specialist is to deliver literacy based professional learning to district partners across the region


RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Essential Job Responsibilities/Primary Activities:
  • Facilitate professional learning using adult learning methodologies to support best practices in Guided Reading and writing instruction
  • Deliver professional learning and coach classroom teachers and coaches on balanced literacy practices and instructional strategies, guided reading in particular
  • Support classroom teachers in building content knowledge and understanding their role in the implementation process
  • Provide feedback as part of the coaching cycle to pinpoint areas of progress as well as development opportunities
  • Maintain highest degree of expertise in literacy instruction and Scholastic product knowledge
  • Maintain professional relationships with districts
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with team and partners

Qualifications

HOW YOU CAN FIT

  • Master's Degree (or progress toward a Degree) in education or reading related field
  • At least 3-5 years’ experience facilitating face-to-face professional learning in literacy and/or reading
  • Minimum of 3-5 years teaching experience
  • Ability to maintain a travel schedule
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Power Point
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills
  • Facilitation skills, professionalism and creativity
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Current knowledge of college and career readiness standards
  • Knowledge of the human change process and adult learning theories
  • Strong interpersonal skills
